I am a newbie so I hope you don't mind answering. I am using the trial version of AnyDVD 6.0.6.1 and then I go through DVD Shrink and reauthor ok but when I use my Nero OEM 6.6.0.18 It goes for 3 minutes with the burn process stopping at 1% writing to disk then it says burn process failed at 4X (5,540KB/s). Please help! Am I supposed to run DVDClone too or any other programs with this?

Judy1234,
Welcome to the forum. Use the ripper function in AnyDVD ( right click the fox head in the taskbar- "Rip the DVD-Video to Hard Disk" ). AnyDVD uses FixVTS to correct any structure problems. See if this gets you past your problem

Thank you for the help and replies. Sorry but I am so new that I don't understand much of the burn lingo etc. I did use the ripper function in AnyDVD as instructed to do so but this time when I went to use my Nero it ejects and tells me to please insert any empty disc to write to. I have tried many empty discs just in the case one or even 2 were damaged etc. but it still says the same thing. I am using the Nero Express portion to burn with. Please help if you can. I am going crazy. I would love to use other programs besides what I have already listed but other than DVDFAb Decrypter in addition to what I am currently using I want to keep it simple. Please help if you can with a Newbie, dummy guide step by step for me with these programs if you are able and willing. It is greatly appreciated.

udy1234,
Below is a guide on using a free program called DVD Shrink. It can use Nero to burn the files Shrink creates. Pics are included in the guide. Just remember to always rip the DVD to HD using AnyDVD as it uses the FixVTS function to correct any structure problems

Hello Judy1234,

From the log it looks like your Burner does not like the media u are using,

U could try Verbatims, Taiyo Yuden, Sonys(MIJ), Maxell(MIJ), Fujis(MIJ) MIJ=Made in Japan.

Is ur PC a DELL?
There is probably an update for ur firmware, so u should check at dell to see, the newest update from the firmware page is E113
but im not sure if this the correct one for ur burner, wait for other members to concur
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2279

The firmware update might help with the current media u are trying.

Judy1234,
You will really need to get better media to use as the blank media you are using is manuf by Ritek in Taiwan. Since Fuji uses a lot of different manuf on their disk except for the Fuji(MIJ), you really need to stick w/ Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden media. The log shows that the burner is not recog. the blank media MID code so it can not properly write to the DVD. W/in the blank media batch you have you might have 1-3 different manuf of those disks.

The manuf of the DVD burner ( Hitachi-LG ) only make the burners and offer no support. All Support must come from Dell and since Dell is in the selling business and not in the firmware business then seeing if a firmware update will help is not going to happen.

Borrow from friend a (+)Verbatim disk and see if you can burn it successfully. If not then send it back to Dell as Defective and see if they will give you a good burner like NEC

Whats up Car.Mike,
Quote:

I thought dell does have firmware updates, as i remember some other members getting firmware updates from them, since if they dont and use a different firmware then it voids the warrenty, so im confused about that part. can u clear that up for me, thanks.

@ Judy1234,
It does not matter if it is + or - format. + formats are the ones that can be booktyped which offers more compatibility with dvd players, but not all burners are able to do this.

300bowler,
Dell is in business of building systems as cheaply as possible. They are not interested in firmware or DVD burners and if you look at their adds it just states DVD Burner. All of the Box stores are guilty of this.

If Dell has a lot of complaints about the drive and they have replaced alot of them w/ another one they are losing $$ as if you figure out the Dell Support speaking to you at least for 1 hour over a given period of time plus shipping. They will though if it can be fixed w/ a firmware update then they will get someone to write it for them. That Hitachi-LG drive is or has been carried by HP,Gateway,Dell,Compaq at one time. The only firmware update for that drive was for the bootup. If it was my computer I would replace that drive w/ a better brand. Look in the Dell Forum for that burner or on the internet and you will see alot of problems.

What burner would you recommend with the least problems and where is a good place to get it from? I wasn't able to find Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden media this evening so I picked up Sony and that didn't work either.

Judy1234 ,
You can get the Verbatims at BestBuy if you are in the U.S. You can also order either brand from NewEgg.com or Meritline.com. If that burner is a full size burner then look for NEC,Plextor, Lite-on or Benq as they all make good burners. NewEgg also sell burners so look at the burners there. Before you buy one post the brand and model # here and we can give you our opinion of it. Make sure where ever you buy it tell them that it is going in a Dell and do they think it will install OK on the IDE Cable. Dell does make some proprietary components and just wanted to make sure it will connect OK

Hey thanks for the info. I will do just that. Another question if you don't mind is that I am using the trial of AnyDVD and CloneDVD because what I have read on the forum it appears to be short and sweet. Free is nice too but some of them look like way more than I can handle so these seem easy to me. In the forums it is mentioned that you can run CloneDVD along with AnyDVD. Do you do one after the other, which one first. Should I always use both. Please help me find a guide and give me a verbal on the order in which I do all of these: This is what I have: DVDFab decrypter, AnyDVD, CloneDVD, DVDShrink and Nero OEM 6.6.0.18. In what instances do I use a particular one and in what combination of these? I don't know if I am running through enough of these or not? Please help. Thanks again.

I've put many drives(burners) in my Dell pcs with no problems. Just check your manual, it will tell you to set the jumper of the drive to "Cable Select". The cable in your pc should do fine.

With AnyDVD running in the back ground you should be able to open Shrink and have it rip and analyze and recode your DVD and then burn it with Nero automatically. Clone DVD will also gitter done!

Liteys and NEC are good burners. Don't buy any just yet. I have no experience with either. I have BenQs (hard to find the good ones now) and an LG adequate. Plextors are the best but pricey. See if others give advice on the two burners. The two sites you chose are top notch. You probably want to make sure the drive you buy will book type +Rs to DVD-ROMs.

I would go w/ the NEC. Looks like they had less complaints at the site. Newegg had the drive cheaper than Meritline did and it looks to be the same.
