Just recently I have been using dvdfab and Vob Blanker to back up movies. I encode the features I want with VOB and copy them to the hard disk. When I then try to encode it with dvdshrink it gets to about 40-50% and crashes, saying out of space or out of memory. I have a 360 gig hard drive with 300 gigs to spare. Does anyone know what is going on> It seems to only do this when I encode files from the hard drive. When I use DVD Shrink on a actual disk it works fine...

Hello.
I wonder if something is amiss in what you're doing with VobBlanker.
This error sometimes can result when certain types of structural copy protection is on a disk and when DVDFab Decrypter is used. Normally blanker takes care of the problem.
Try Ripit4me to get the entire disk ripped and cleaned with FixVTS. You could then use VobBlanker to eliminate whatever you don't want and then into DVD Shrink for encoding. Guide and links to software:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/360110
Also check in DVD Shrink whether there is blank video at the start of the main title. If so use the start/end frame feature to chop it out.

yea, I usually just use dvdfab to get the entire disk to the HD. Then I use Vob Blanker on the vts. I blank all the things I don't want. then I encode it and then use DVD Shrink.

laddyboy, i'm looking for someone that knows a little about Vob Blanker. With this new encryption (the latest movie is Fast And thge Furious Tokyo Drift) the only way I can decrypt it is VOB and then shrink it (i also use AnyDVD)..... now on the initial burn it works fine BUT when i delete it from my hard drive and try to re-rip it and then re-burn it that is where i get problems. Shrink gives me and error and won't let me rip it... DVDDecrupter rips it and lets me burn it but it won't play in my DVD player and when i use Vob Blanker AGAIN on the re-rip it rips it fine but won't let me play the movie in my hard drive.
is there a setting or something i am missing?
I should note that i am using 1.6.0.3 VobBlanker which i haven't had problems with until the last month or so.
I have a feeling I am leaving a corrupt file in the movie and upon reripping it won't bypass it.
thanks

New released issues? The Lake House, Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift, Curious George, etc. Try this FREE guide, "DVDFAB + VobBlanker + DVD Shrink + ImgBurn" here http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/334154 Just take your time slowly, follow the steps closely and you'll be all square away.
Out of curiosity, what versions of DVDFAB Decrypter & VobBlanker did you used? I recommend updating them to the latest. Links for download is included in the guide.
Good luck to all and happy burning.

I wasn't using AnyDVD while using VobBlanker or dvdfab.
I use DVDfab to get the whole dvd onto my HD, then use VOB to take out what I want, then encode with DVD Shrink.
could the reason be is because I am no running AnyDVD during this process? I never had to run AnyDVD before to backup my movies including Undeworld 2.

I just tried this before you even posted this (still good though my friend) i noticed on the second rip (from the back up) from shrink i didn't get the error... am burning Tokyo Drift and Curious George on second burns right now. I will report back my findings.... that would be something if AnyDVD was causing the problems... and I paid for that program too.

You need to disable AnyDVD when using DVDFab Decrypter.

thanks laddyboy, acousty and alkohol
Unlike the other tread i was looking for answers i found the answers to my problem right in this thread.
ANYDVD was the culprit on the second rip (from the back up) I disabled that and re-ripped Tokyo Drift and burned it and it plays with no problem.
Here are the steps I took to get second rips (from backups) to work.
Tokyo Drift
1. Rip with Vob Blanker (AnyDVD was running but not sure it had to be.
2. Shrunk with DVD Shrink (AnyDVD was running)
3. Burned with Nero
4. Re-re-ripped backup to HD using shrink (WITHOUT AnyDVD running)
5 Burned with Nero
6 plays fine in my DVD player.
many many thanks for working with me on this you guys.... i am fairly good at figuring things out but this had me stumped.... I mean I have about 20 movies (just guessing but probably close) that I have that would do this and i thought i would have to re-rent all of them.
damn that AnyDVD..... not on the first rips just the second rips...... lol...... for the first rips i love that program.

I use Vob Blanker 1.6.0.3
DVDFab 3.0.1.2
MOST newer movies i use Vob Blanker first (with AnyDVD running) then shrink it with AnyDVD running and then burn it with Nero 6.0...... no problems.
it was the second rip that was causing me problems and it was AnyDVD running that was causing them.
thanks agin my friend

@dznutz45
I highly recommend you to update VobBlanker to the latest 2.1.1.0, use the link I provided on my earlier reply or get VobBlanker at Afterdawn.
In regards to running/processing your movie with VobBlanker while AnyDVD is running on the backgroun, I don't recommend you doing this method/way. Simply because they'll conflict one another and thus AnyDVD is throwing a fit against VobBlanker or DVDFAB Decrypter, therefore, you're likely to get errors. You need to "disable or shut off" AnyDVD whenever you use VobBlanker or DVDFAB Decrypter and or vice versa.
To be honest with you, I don't have (never used) AnyDVD, all I used are totally FREE tools, either DVDFAB + VobBlanker or RipIt4Me (DVD Decrypter + FixVTS or PSL plugin) and I've never ever encountered any dvds/movies that I can not rip or backup -- except my encoding tool is DVD-RB Pro + CCE SP 2.70. Most of the times, I used Nero Recode 2 with (Advanced Analysis + HQSR + Assign Best Quality to Main Movie) for the majority of my backups if the compressions are 30% or lower.
Again, for me info, go here http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/334154 (DVDFAB + VobBlanker + DVD Shrink + ImgBurn guide). Good luck and happy burning.

yea, AnyDVD doesn't help at all. The problem is DVD Shrink crashing everytime I decide to encode a movie thats on my HD. When I encode straight from a disk it works fine, although it takes a long time then in the past.(I recently dbaned my hd and started fresh)
I have two hd's. If my jumper settings were wrong could this be why this is happening to me? It never took this long to encode or rip stuff before. It takes twice as long.
Is there another program I can try that besides dvdshrink? how is Nero encode??

BTW, Nero Recode works fine as a reauthor/compressor since the same person did Shrink as well.
Have you tried reinstalling Shrink since it's been crashing.
I assume you're processing the rips thru FixVTS or VobBlanker before feeding to Shrink.

I have upgraded shrink and still same probs. I have used VOB to cut out the extras and I have tried using the whole 7-8 gig dvdfab files to encode. Either way it says "out of memory" while encoding. I have looked at task manager while this program was runing and the commit charge just keeps climbing into the thousands before it finally crashes around 18-50% done. I am thinking the HD problem above is my problem, but I have yet to get home to try it. could it be the firmware in the dvd rive?

Hi again.
Have you tried just using DVD Shrink directly on the disk with AnyDVD running? Does that work? Did you check your DMA settings on your IDE channels? Is it just files from VobBlanker that's causing DVD Shrink problems?

I haven't checked the HD settings yet. I will when I get off work.
Yes, running shrink does work when I encode straight from a dvd, but it takes a long time. This is due to the encoding process stopping(the preview screen pauses)for about 5-10 minutes every 10% I would say. But it doesn't crash. I have ran AnyDVD and it doesn't matter either way. It is either very slow when encoding straight from disk or it crashes when encoding files off the HD.
I have ripped full dvd's to the HD with DVDfab and another program (I can't think of the name) then used VOB on those files and when I try to encode with shrink it crashes. It crashes when I try to encode a full dvd (dvdfab--->shrink) and it crashes when I run VOB as a middle man to weed out features (dvdfab--->vob--->shrink) So I don't think VOB is the problem. It could be dvdfab, but I never had this problem before I formatted my drives. It always worked flawlessly, so it has to be a hardware setting or something. I will check my jumper settings, DMA settings, and install the latest drivers for my dvd drive and update every program I am using to the newest ver.(which I believe I already did)
Anything else I should do?

That's probably enough to keep you busy. You might check the cables on your DVD as well as HDD to make sure they aren't pinched and causing a communication error. It is possible to have a bad HDD causing the problem, but if you have two and the same thing happens on both, that's not likely the problem.

DMA mode on both drives is already choosen
My jumper settings are not wrong
I can't seem to find an update for my dvdrw's firmware, but I don't know why that would effect it because I never updated it before when it worked. No wires a crossed or kinked. My dvd drive cables are fine and havn't changed.
Shrink ver. 3.2.0.15
Dvd decrypter ver. 3.5.4.0
DVDFab ver. 2.9.8.5.beta 4
VOB blocker ver. 2.1.1.0
DVD decrypter has a read rate of .1x to.5x when I rip the movie to the HD. Is this normal? I thought it ran a lot faster like 4.0x And my system once again as with DVD Shrink is severely slowed down. It took me two minutes to type the last few sentences.
"Out of memory, not enough storage to process command" is the usual error I get when I try to encode with shrink. I have 512 ram and a 320 gig HD.
So I have tried using
1.Dvddecrypter with AnyDVD running and then dvdshrink.
2.clonedvd(this program makes sloppy backups in my opinion) then dvdshrink
3.dvdfab---->dvd shrink
4.dvdfab--->vob--->shrink
I have tried all of these with and without AnyDVD and no luck at all.
Any other suggestions?

Your rip rate is way too slow. What make and model of burner do you have? Do you have access to another system where you could uninstall the burner from your system and install it in the other for testing. Do you have an antivirus program installed and runnin g or have you run an antivirus program? A spyware program like AdAware? Here's some free ones:
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html
There are some free online virus scanners as well. Among them:

I have AVG, adaware, and Spybot.
I have done an extensive virus, adware, spyware removal on my system and found nothing.
http://www.tech-forums.net/showthread.ph...threadid=119852
This is a list of stuff I have done to clean my system.
I don't have another system to test out on unfortunatley, but I do have two dvd burners and both do the same thing. I maybe thought it was my old HD, but I transfered everything (except installing DVD Shrink on the new drive) to the new drive and I still get the same results.
I have a pioneer dvdrw I can't remember the model #, but if both dvd burners are doing the same thing it rules out the dvd burner right?
