I am using smart FTP (go figure) anyway I load the linux flash page and type in the ip address on my laptop 192.168.1.1 then hit connect (intel pentium 3 windows 2000 professional) but it says tried to establish connection with an unreachable host. Please hhheeelllppp!!! what do i do?

Im going through a direct connection and i tried to create a network but that didnt work. im using my dads laptop and its kinda old. do ya think that has anyting to do with it? sides it doesnt have wireless internet so i cant use the router. I tried cute FTP to but nothing. Im flying blind here please help. what makes this even more anoying is that my chip didnt come with a manual so i had to guess what everything was the whole way. im lucky i even got this far.

you don't need an ethernet cable at all, you need to be using a crossover cable. they look the same, but they're very different.

I DID USE A CROSSOVER CABLE!!!! I HAVE ONE. Let me read what it says on it. Ok im calm now it says patch cable so i might have been wrong but if there is a difference between an ethernet and a cross over then what are they. actually to make it simpiler(Pardon my spelling) can a crossover cable fit in an ethernet port. and is a patch cable a crossover?

the weirdest part is that i downloaded this application from their web site a remote flasher which i guess flashes bios's to my mod chip by the way their web site is www.smartxx.com anyway that thing detects my chip automatically and connects fine and i try to find out its properties but it has no right click option avalible pardon my spelling again, so i cant transfer them to my FTP. when i try my FTP it cant connect for jack squat. it just says tied to connet to an unreachable host client terminated connection and i type in all the propoties correctely host: xbox user: xbox Password: xbox IP: 192.168.0.7 but it doesnt work. I thought computers were my friends. Please dont be short with me im only 13 (predators dont get any ideas)
so please be patiant.

so your trying to flash your bios using the FTP option.....first off you need to create a network on your laptop
start-control panel-network internet connections-create home network.
then you need to turn on ICS(internet sharing connection) here is a tutorial for that
http://www.xtreme-source.com/showthread.php?t=879

next make sure your norton auto protect is disabled why you are trying to FTP....
