Hi,
Start > Run > type "msconfig" without the quotes.
Uncheck limewire from the start up tab.

You might also want to check out Frostwire which is replacing Limewire.

This is merely my opinion - but I'd stay well away from Limewire...full of virus ridden files etc etc
Just sumin to consider (not much but :P)

Ripper, Aslong as you have checked the clean and infected list and are sure you have a clean version, just watch what you d/l and you'll be fine.
Although I do stress the use of BT...

Yes i know Rav ;)
And am perfectly capable of using limwire safely; I was just saying that as a warning to someone that maybe does not.
However, I still feel uncomfortable,on principal, using software, where you are open to that content or it is allowed to be publicly spread.
And yes BT is the way to go IMHO.
:)

Hi,
I know you are capable of using it, you said:

So like I said, if your version is a clean one (not bundled w/ walware), if you watch what you download carefully, then you'll be fine, I have a CLEAN version of L/W PRO on another machine and have been running it for 2 years, not one infected file downloaded to date.
On this machine Limewire's counter-part is installed, frostwire, also been clean using that.
If you feel your secuirty is being compremised, then don't use p2p at all, I'm a strict BT user, when I do use p2p, its for songs via Frostwire.

Hi Rav,
Sorry if i sounded at all provocative in my reply; it was not intentional lol (reading over what i had said - it did occur to me..)
I also own a clean version of LImewire - which i use for the occasional song as do i use Soulseek. But yes i, now, have come to swear by bittorrent and will for the rest of my time ;)
I don't feel my safety is being comprimised;merely more open to exploit using a device like limewire, obviously if it is not used properly.
:)

Says it all... you should be careful what you d/l in future. As for your viruses; post things like a HijackThis log and other virus scan logs in the virus forum and someone will help you out; unless you are sure they are gone that is.

I've been using Frostwire for quite a while - just music - and always run a virus scan and spyware program after d/loads and have not yet had a problem. Depends what you want, free or pay!

i used limewire for about a year and a half, and never once did i get infected with a virus or any spyware. when you know what you're looking for and scan your downloaded files before you run them, you're good. still, now i've switched over to frostwire for my music and *cough cough* anthro pics. ^.~ it's an excellent network.

Yes I have heard good things about Forstwire. And as Auslander said; as long as you know what you are looking for and scan everything before you open it or whatever then you wil be fine.

Yes I spose. IMHO Soulseek is the best P2P program for individual songs etc - I don't think there is any spyware on there...LOL
