I just bought a Epson R220 and now I'm looking for some media. What color (white, silver, or glossy) looks the most like original DVDs and CDs?

Surely someone has at least used both the silver and the white ones?

cant comment on the silver, but the white ones look very good, u might want to try the new white glossy ones, they might look better than the matte ones

Ok thanks for the input. By the way 300bowler what media are you using? Have you had any troubles with it? If anyone else has tried the white, silver, or glossy please let me know how they compare.

What color are those listed above? Does either TY or Verbatim make silver ones with a printable hub?

The white looks the most like the originals. I've been using an Epson R220 and have tried all except the new Taiyo Yuden Glossy Printables (Watershield) hub printables which I am awaiting an order from Burnsmart.com. I haven't used these yet but am looking forward to sampling these since I have read that they look the best or most like an original. Paiger651, which glossy discs did you sample? Verbatim makes a glossy but not hub printable and not sure if it has any water sheilding properties. The cost of the Taiyo Yuden hub printable Watershield Glossy White is considerably more than the others at about .94 cents each (cost + shipping) Not having to spray a sealer on these Watershield Glossy's like I have to do on the others may be worth the additional cost. I'll let you know of my findings after I have tried these new Taiyo Yuden Watershield discs out as I think these will turn out to be the best available to date.

No, you don't have to spray a sealer on your printable discs. However, in that case you need to be more careful not to touch the printed surface with damp fingers or the slightest drop of water will cause the color to run right off of them. I use a sealer because I like having a water resistant finish on the printed side and the added seal gives the photographic images more depth of color. If your not anal like me then there is no need to seal them.

I think Verbatim makes printables that are water protected. I would never put a chemical spray on my discs.

I use Verbatim white's glossy and matt. Both are great, not sure how water resistant they are though. Didn't even know you could print on the silver ones! They look quality. The only thing that annoys me is that labels that are really dark (have a lot of black in them) don't seem to print the best. Does everyone here always use the best quality print setting? If so how many discs dyu get out of a set of cartridges on average? I tend to just use a Text/Image print to save on ink and they come out pretty good.

I'm in the 200-250 range for my cartridges! And that's including regular use of my printer!

I live in Canada and I use Dysan white inkjet printables to the hub. I get them from blankdvdmedia.com have been getting them for about 2 years now and they are awesome. the setting I use is 21 inner and 119 outer. Hope this helps; enjoy your new printer it's awesome I have the same one.

On my printable dvds,I go by how the cover looks before deciding to print onto white/full hub inkjet printable/lightscribe/and reg hub-shiny inkjet printable.

Darker covers turn out better on my white full hubs and shiny look pretty good as well. The shiny printable gives me a 3D look.

Lighter covers: They don't look very good on my white full hubs. Shiny printables definitely look better, but the reg hub cuts off quite a bit of the cover.

I'd love to get a hold of some white glossy's,but the prices I have seen are too steep for me. Full hub shiny would also look very sweet,if I could find them.

I got pics of all mine in my user profile page.

Just sampled the first Taiyo Yuden 16x DVD-R hub printable Watershield Glossy Discs. Results are fantastic! I was blown away. These are truly the very best to date. All I can tell you is try these out and see for yourself. I thought that because of their super high gloss finish that the ink would smudge when you touch them. They do not smudge! They dry quickly and look as good or better than a silk screened studio production disc. You have to see what these look like with a high resolution image! They're not cheap but damn they look good!

I'm happy with my disks the way they are adn I don't have to buy something for double the price to enjoy the labels that I put on my white hub printables and my silve printable! Ask yourself one thing.... will the increase in price make my DVD any better??? if it's only for printing onto the disk...... then I'll buy the cheaper Taiyo Yudens and enjoy the movie just as much as I would with the higher end. Here are some of todays printing and burning:

Very nice looking DVDs IHoe. I didn't even contemplate prining on DVDs, spending a lot of money on ink, but damn those look good. Kinda makes me want to drop the sharpie...

I will continue to use the regular Taiyo Yuden printables also. I wasn't suggesting that they were not great either. If you like them then no need to try the others. But if your looking for the best inkjet Printable disc color and that is what this threads title was asking then the Watersheield Tayio Yudens are just that. I took a photo of both disc types using the same image but not sure how to paste the image here. The biggest difference besides the high gloss is that the blacks are a real black and the colors are richer.

I wasn't suggesting that it wouldn't be worth the higher cost of the new Taiyo Yuden glossies... just that the results of the movie will be the same. is it worth the extra $.50 or more per disk to buy it for just that? Maybe..... but untill they drop the price down I won't buy them even though I am very anxious to get my little hands on one and see for myself. It's the same reason why I won't buy a DL... lower the price and I'll buy them!

For those that are worried about the cost of the printer and ink, this should help u make your decision easier.

1.) Yes, they do look very good!! Would not go back to Sharpie.
2.) You can easily get the R220 or the R320 for under 70-80 bucks.
3.) You can print about 300 DVD's from a set of ink cartridges.
4.) The BEST part......the ink is CHEAP!!!! I buy SIX sets of cartidges for 36.00 at meritline.com That's $1 a cartdridge!!! And when they're empty.......take them to Staples and you get $3 credit for each one that you return empty. That's $3 of free stuff for something u only paid $1 for AND you ended up using the ink for free!!! You can use up to 3 of these credits per purchase/visit. So that's $9 of free stuff you can get each visit.

Basically, I use the credits from my empties to buy blank DVD's or Case insert paper. Shoot, I'll even drop in and get 6 free 20 oz bottles of soda for free for me and the kids!! Can't beat that deal!!!

As for the price of the printer. I paid 70 dollars for the printer. Put the original Epson ink cartridges on Ebay and sold them for 54 dollars. So, I only came out the pocket around 20 bucks for the printer.

Not anymore at my local staple's. They changed their policy for HP/Lexmark/and another brand name only, and vouchers only good for ink cartridge purchases at the store. I heard Office Depot give's $3 vouchers per empty cartridge.

Still cheap ink though, and very good pics.

I'll keep saving my empties in case staple's goes back the way they were doing all empty cartridges.
