I have just bought a new Playstation 2 (Silver, Slimline). It plays backup DVD movies perfectly. However, here are a few questions...

1. Best method for slimline newer PS2 backing up (e.g. modchip, slide card etc)

2. How hard is it to do?

3. Is there any methods a newbie would find easy to do themselves?

I am an absolute novice to this scene, so treat any text above this with great sympathy and understanding, cheers.

easiest thing to use would be a mod chip but most are difficult to install especially if you don't have soldering experience. easiest thing to use would be the swap magic with flip lid or magic keys or straw and tissue mod. For more info do a search in the forums.

Mod chips aren't easy at all unless you are a soldering/electronics expert. He said he was going to do it himself. Chips are hard to install, but less hassle in the long run since you don't have to swap discs. I used swap magic and the fliptop mod. You could use the magic keys as well. It's very easy to do. It's cost about $37 shipped and took 10 minutes to install. So the question is do you mind swaping discs or would you rather pay 2-3 times the cost for a chip to be installed?

why don't you re-read my post... I said mod chips would be the easiest to "use", I also did mention chips are difficult to install and if he didn't have soldering experience he should go for swap magic.

I am fed up of my swapping discs and want to put a chip in is it really nuts hard? I have a V12, I was looking at the DMS4 Pro/Lite, I am a quick learner but would I probably just f**k my ps2 up? My warranty ran out this month. Is there anyone who repairs modded ps2 if I break it? My housemate is a decent solderer but he uses X-box.

the soldering for the ps2 mod chips is a lot harder than the xbox modchips so unless your buddy is very confident in his soldering skills I wouldn't let him try it.

Oh I also have a sch-30003 V4 ps2, I hear this is probably easier to chip, Is this true? Still I don't feel gung-ho enough to solder the chunky old thing if it's hard to do.

The major difficulty in soldering the mod chips is that the contacts are SUPER TINY, and in many cases (like when you have to solder to a chip) they are close together. So if you accidentally bridge two pins on a chip, you could be hosed.

If you are truly that fed up with swapping (I don't blame you) pay a professional to solder in a chip, or get a no-solder chip (slightly easier to install but you still have to disassemble the PS2 all the way.)
