I've had an R320 for a while now and I've had success printing on DVDs. But it seems that about half of the time I insert the DVD tray and tell the computer to print, it pulls the tray way to far into the printer, then spits it back out and displays an error message. Sometimes it says the disc tray was not inserted correctly, sometimes it claims there was a jam, but it always starts with the printer pulling the tray to far into the printer. And the tray is aligned correctly and inserted correctly. So usually I can restart the printer or wait a couple of minutes and try again and it will work fine. But tonight it printed a few discs and now every time I attempt to print it pulls the tray to far in and then throws an error. I've restarted the printer, left it for an hour, and then even uninstalled and then reinstalled the printer but nothing seems to help. I was hoping someone else may have experienced this problem and could provide some troubleshootings steps.

Hi KWHA,

I have the same problem now again with my Epson R220 normally on the first print after ive turned the printer on. If it goes all the way out the back I just reload it and press the paper feed button on the top. Sometimes if I remember Ill start the print job without the CD tray inserted and once the printer asks for the tray ill insert is and press the paper feed. Also try not inserting the tray as far as the two alignment arrows, this may help. Its a pain but not sure how to actually stop it all together. If its happening all the time your printer may have bit the bullet.

I read on a review of the R320 that the person was having similar problems and they actually just applied pressure to the tray as it was being pulled in by the printer to slow down the tray's progress so that when the printer stopped pulling it in, the tray would be in the correct possition (similar to your suggestion of not inserting the tray all the way to the arrows). I tried that last night with success. But I'm sure applying pressure is not great for the printer, so I'll try your suggestions. Thanks.

Either way, its still a pain to have to do. I might get in touch with Epson and see what they suggest.

Make sure that printer is sitting away from the wall- about 10-12 inches. I had that problem once. The printer vibrated too close to the wall and when it sucked the template it-it went in way too far and ejected back out with an error.

My printer has been abused. Lauched in the air by my ex wife. Now I have to nudge the template into printer when it starts to take it in.It also won't eject all the way,so I have to help it out at the end of the job. Still an awesome printer.

I have the same printer, what I have done to correct mine is wipe the white markings on the disc tray to make sure that they are clean.
Also when I get it working I do not shut it off and it goes into stand by mode. If it still persists my dad just stops the tray by holding it at the normal spot. You will know when it is not going to work because the little click noise is not there. What cuases it is 2 different things either the white marks on the tray are dirty or the switch in the printer is not set right or broken.
good luck.

Mine was playing up the other day. It kept taking the tray in and spitting it back out. I checked inside and there was a small bit of paper sitting in between the print rollers which was causing it!

That's also what I do when printing. I will stop the tray from fully going to far out ( by hand), so that the printer will still be able to pull it back in.

Just like you said in that review.
