I have been using Ritek G05's (DVD-R Full Face Printable) for a few weeks now but have been getting some poor quality burns. I normally use Verbatim and have been burning to the Ritek's exactly the same way as I would with those. On playback in two of my standalone DVD players the picture freezes but the audio continues, this happens frequently throughout the movie. It has happened with 2 of 3 discs that I have checked. I am burning at x4 with Nero Vision and sometimes with TMPG Express/Author then Nero Burning Rom. My writer is HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GWA 4082N and I am struggling to find any kind of info about it or what media it likes, if anyone has any ideas it would be a great help. Also, on the discs that are "coasters" I have noticed what looks like a scratch on the underside of the disc. However it is not on the actual disc surface, it is in the purple dye of the disc, could this have anything to do with it?
sounds like you drive doesn't like the Ritek media. Stick with Verbatim or go online and get Taiyo Yuden inkjet printables..... that's what these are and they are the best:
Sorry mate. From the UK. Hoping you can help me again. Have realised that the problem is not with my media but with the actual film im burning. It locks up on playback on my laptop in exactly the same places. Is this the way its been ripped/compressed? Is there any way I can correct this using software like TMPG Xpress (Motion Search Precision option etc.?)
Thanks again IHoe.
By the way is it worth the money importing media from the US or will it end up amounting to about the same?
I`ve been using the Ritek GO5`s hub printable for some time now, without any aggro. I only ever burn them @ 8X though, using LG burners.Being in OZ we dont get a big choice of reasonable priced media.
goddolah- Here goes - I have used quite a few Ritek G-05's Cleverly masquerading in the guise of Maxell Dvd Media - And although these are'nt the printables you mentioned they are excellent disc - not rated as highly as Taiyo Yuden or verbatim but not as expensive either ! Not being familiar with your drive ! I would be unable to recommebd any other media choices other than Taiyo Yuden or verbatim pehaps . You save it appears to be a deffect in your original Film (DVD) Have you considered returning it to the shop you bought it at? perhaps you just got a bad pressing /deffective disc ? and the the new copy might be okay ! It may just be as others have said that your drives do not like Ritek G-05's Does the problem occur with other media ? Also if you are buying your media in spindles Try taking disc from different areas in the stack ! Sometimes even good media gets damaged/jostled about during shipping and the disc will shift about a bit perhaps scratching or scuffing up a couple or so at the top & bottom of the pile ! Another option if your original is scratched is to try a Game shop many of them can Resurface your dvd or game to near new condition for a nominal fee. I had a Playstation 2 disc that my grandson had scratched to unplayability done and it worked flawlessly after that! You could also try the home remedy version - Polishing the disc yourself with Brasso Brass polish & a soft cloth . Not being from the UK. Or familiar with overeas shipping cost or exchange rates I could say whether ordering from the USA would be cost effevtive for you ? goddolah I hope you get it sorted out ! Good luck & happy burning CIAO!
