what's the best dvd burner program?

i've used both DVD Shrink and dvdfab decryptor and i was wondering what program i should use to burn to DVD-R discs. Is one better than another or are there a couple that are equal in quality?

IMGBurn seems to be the favorite around here. It handles single- and double-layer really well. I've toyed with it but love Nero. CloneDVD2 is also excellent but is for video only. If you go the Nero route, get version 7.0.8.2, which is one of the few really stable versions.
-Do you believe you own your computer and shouldn't be told what you can run and do? Then say *NO* to Microsoft Vista!
-Since half the questions here involve media problems, here ya go: Only use Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden discs (get your TYs from Rima.com, not Supermediastore or meritline). Forget the rest, no matter what "brand" they sell under. Always burn at 4x speed regardless of the speed rating of this discs or your drive. If you have burn problems with these then you have to update your drive's firmware. For double-layer discs, only use Verbatim DVD+R DL and burn them at 2.4x speed.

They told me at Best Buy that not all burners will recognize the DVD-R discs. I feel that it's best to always use DVD+R's. I use Nero Burning Rom 6 and 1 Click DVD copy to copy all of my movies. Works pretty well.

I think most, if not all newer burners and home players will be fine with -R's & +R's.
As for the program question... you ask 5 different people in here you will likely get 5 different answers. Take a bit of each persons advice and go from there, it all comes down to a personal preference IMHO.

I should have made myself clearer. Most of the older burners won't work with DVD-R's. And no, I don't believe everything that they tell me at Best Buy.

You have the right but if you happen to misinform someone then expect to be corrected. (I have been corrected before and any senior/addict member would say the same)
Allot of employees that work at best buy only have a basic knowledge of computers.. Think about it if they where real computer gurus would they be working at Best Buy?
I am not saying that all workers at Best Buy are like this. I have heard some of the employees at Best Buy around my area give bad and misinforming advice to consumers.

Tho this is a true statement (They told me at Best Buy that not all burners will recognize the DVD-R discs). It also is pointless. There are DVD drives that will not read/burn DVD+R media as well. But most DVD drives now are compatible with both DVD-R and DVD+R.
The member above was asking what is the best burning program to use. So I do not even know where the DVD-R and DVD+R media comes into play with that question.
But to say some drives do not read DVD-R media so that must make DVD+R better is a misinforming statement. Since some drives will not read DVD+R media either.
As I was corrected by a person recently it all depends on the Drive you have and what media is on the compatibility list of it. But I will always say TY's and Verbatim are the best to use.
As to the best burning software I personally use IMGBurn myself.

Actually that's true. If you had spent any time reading the various posts/guides/opinions here you would realize that's an absurd statement on -R's. And quoteing some moron from BestBuy as your source... oh well.
Your statement comes as quite a shock to those who started their burning days many years ago with Pioneer burners, seeing as the first DVD recordable format and burner released in the market was -R. Developed by Pioneer and backed by the DVD Forum it has broader playback compatibility than +R (which came later and I don't believe was backed by the Forum), especially with much older players.
In 2002, -R's sold about 90,000,000 discs to +R's 13,000,000. Is that old enough?
Hate to be so abrupt but you should have taken the first response to your statement like a man, rather than get all defensive.

The first DVD burrning drives where DVD-R drives not DVD+R drives. So again you have been and are missinformed.

In all fairness, he might be thinking about the "Dell Factor". Dell included +R-only burners in all their computers until fairly recently, and Dell has lead the market share, along with HP, for the last several years. Of course, this doesn't make blco32 right, but I suspect a lot of people have the misconception that +R is the "dominant" format for this reason.

hey thanx yall, to give an update, i wouldn't mind checkin out imgburn (is that a free program or how much cash would i have to shell out for it?) but i've been using Nero and haven't had any problems yet. and my discs seem to play in whatever i put them in and they are DVD-R I'd love to get my hands on some dual layers but I can't seem to find em for very cheap anywhere.
