If you have a FAT PS2 then you will need to get a Network Adapter, many places dont sell them now but you can get one off ebay.

If you have a Slim PS2 then you dontneed to worry about that as it already has one built in.

You will need a router, or a network card in your PC, then a network cable that connects from your router or computer to your PS2, also make sure ICS is setup if your using a network card in yor PC, and if your router doesnt have a built in modem.

Then you are away, can set it up via a network disc, or many games these days have them built in anyway.

As for patching backups to play online, you can search the forum for that ;)

You DON'T need a router, or any connections involving your PC at all. You can connect directly from broadband modem to PS2 via the Ethernet cable that's supplied with the slimline, or with the Network Adapter.
Which you're better doing anyway, as that way you get the use of your full bandwidth, instead of a watered down connection with routers & PCs & extra cables in between.

I was meant to say you can use a router, not need one, as I obviously know that as I have used PS2 online without a router before.

But you cant use the modem if its only USB, and in the Uk, most ISP's that aint cable provide you with a modem thats only usb.

But weather you are in the UK or not I dont know :)

so i need a network adaptor? ive got the old version of the ps2.so it a cable to the pc modem to the network adaptor on the ps2? what else then?

yes you do need the network adapter. How else do you expect to connect your cable/dsl modem to the ps2 (no, you can't do it directly through usb and no, it's not a good idea to get a 3rd party usb network adapter) after getting that you have 1 of 3 choices:

1)connect directly from cable modem to ps2 network adapter
2)get a router and connect the cable modem to router then from router to both pc and ps2
3)cable modem to pc network adapter then 2nd network card to ps2 with Xover cable using ICS

if you need more info on those 3 methods do a search on the site as they have been covered.
