Hey There. Recently I've become a lot more interested in the operating system "Linux" (thanks Jannejt!) and I've decided I want to dual boot my system with Windows XP and "Ubuntu Linux"

I've watched these guys do it - http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6104490811311898236 and it doesen't look too difficult.

I just want to verify my Windows XP will still be intact, and will be just as stable! This is a shared computer and I cannot format any of the harddrives. Creating partitions is ok, I just want to verify this is the correct way to do things. Thanks.

-Mike

PS. I might help If I mention I have 2 HDDs, one master and one slave, will it be at all possible to install Linux on the second HDD? That way I can still dual boot but leave my 1st os on my master intact. II also heard Ubuntu has many security holes, so it would be best to find a better distro? Thanks.

as long as you have two partitions and make sure when you are installing that you have each on the separate partitions you shouldn't have anything to worry about...its just like dual booting winXP and win2k.

i don't think you can boot an OS off of the slave drive. the only way it would boot is if it doesn't detect a master, and thats only if the mobo bios is configured to do so. your best bet is to just have 2 partitions on your master drive and go from there.

For the best quality mp3s use EAC (exact audio copy) to rip your audio CDs and LAME to encode them. Follow this guide:
