Good job replacing all the full stops with ...
And when you say 'dosen't open', it dosen't make any sense. Be more specific.

If you use Internet Explorer, Outlook, or run stuff you get off of p2p then all those security programs are for naught.

In any case, try downloading Ewido -> http://www.ewido.net/en/

Have you noticed any icons appearing on your desktop or new "toolbars" in IE?

Also, you might want to look at your HOSTS file with an editor (c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc it's called hosts with no extension.) It will be blank unless you deliberately installed one as an ad- or spyware-blocker, and if you didn't, it will probably list the download sites of anti-virus or anti-spyware software at the very top or very bottom.

It's also possible that it's not malware - just massive Windows corruption. Happens a lot, though I somewhat suspect malware more.

-Do you believe you own your computer and shouldn't be told what you can run and do? Then say *NO* to Microsoft Vista!
-Since half the questions here involve media problems, here ya go: Only use Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden discs (get your TYs from Rima.com, not Supermediastore or meritline). Forget the rest, no matter what "brand" they sell under. Always burn at 4x speed regardless of the speed rating of this discs or your drive. If you have burn problems with these then you have to update your drive's firmware. For double-layer discs, only use Verbatim DVD+R DL and burn them at 2.4x speed.

"Won't Open" means the window for system restore hangs will not show the screen for restoring...starts to open but hangs...never completely opens...the window is blank.

I never use P2P software or explorer...Firefox only.

Operating system is only 6 months old...custom built system not a out of the box computer...legitimate operating system.

As for Office when I try to open it starts "window installer" like the program is just being installed then it errors during install...Message is "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resourse that is not available"
"Click Ok to try again, or enter alternate path to a folder containing the installation package "NAV.msi" in the box below.

Off this subject, has Afterdawn changed the "Edit message" option...I only get "Edit thread title option"...just curious.

That's a major, unpatched (AFAIK) bug in Office XP. You would get around it by disabling the Windows Installer via your Services panel.

Start->Control Panel->Performance and Maintenance->Administrative Tools->Services->Windows Installer->Startup Type set to Disabled and also stop the process. You will need to manually restart it temporarily anytime you need to most things.

If you can't access Services, you're system is likely ganked up beyond repair, mostly likely by malware, but there are a few things you can try. See what happens here first.

The 'edit message' option should appear just at the top-right corner of *each* message posted by you. For mesages posted by other users than you, a 'Send PM' option will appear

Getting back on topic, If you PC is really so screwed, I don't think it's worth the trouble trying to repait it. A *much* easier option would be to backup important data on any external media, reformat and reinstall. May sound lame, but that's what I may have done if I was in your place.

Maybe. If he can't run Services or MMC snap-ins, he's basically screwed anyway. It's worth trying to salvage his machine though.
