Guys, been using DVDShrink for a good couple of years now and lately, on random discs, during the compression cycle, I leave the PC to do its thing then come back later.

When I return, something has errored and my PC has switched off.

It does not happen on consecutive burns, but happens on the same discs (what i'm saying is, movie A compresses fine, movie B turns the PC off, then on re-attempt, movie B turns the PC off again)

I have just uninstalled my software and reloaded it to see if that helps.

Just thought a few of you guru's could shed some light on it.

I have also shutdown all programs running in the background (taskbar icons) to prevent any conflicts that way (DAP was causing my compression cycles to take 4 hours at one stage).

Other than all that, the PC is in good working order and relatively fast. Do regular scans for virus and adware also.

Shrink can be very CPU intensive so, first make sure your PC's microprocessor isn't over heating during the transcoding process by opening the PC's case and making sure all fans (especially the one on the micro) are working properly and spinning freely, if not, clean and/or replace them, also check for proper venting. Clean the inside of the case as best you can to help prevent over-heating problems. You could also try leaving the case open while using shrink and see if the PC remains running on those movies it had shut down on. Worst case, your power supply is on it's way out and you need to replace it (it's pretty easy and their also cheap to replace).

NOTE:
This could be also caused by an encryption issue that shrink can't handle on some movies, so try using an alternate like DVDfab decrypter to rip the DVD video files files with. When DVDfab is done open the video files using shrink and proceed as you normally would.

Get DVDFab here (it's free);

Here's a guide on use;

OR

Try Ripit4me, it takes the ripping/transcoding/and burning process and makes it a one click task. You'll need DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter, and FixVTS to make it all work.

OR

Try Downloading and installing the trial version of AnyDVD. Once installed, run DVDshrink as you normally would to produce a backup, AnyDVD runs in the backround to crack the copy protection on the disk.
