Once I asked a question on this forum, on how to compress 4 hours of video on one DVD.

What was suggested to me was to format the files onto 352 x 480 and the bitrate in 2324. The image quality I got was comparable to the old VHS running in SP.

Does anyone know if and how long can I stretch those numbers to put 6 hours on a DVD?

You can compress to 6 hours by again lowering the bitrate. The resolution isn't as much of a factor compared to bitrate. For 6 hours at 256 kbit/s audio and using DVD5 (4.37GB DVD), the video bitrate would be 1432. Of course the lower the bitrate the worse the movie will look. Also if you are re-compressing an existing MPEG2 file that won't help the quality either.

@carlmart
6 hours on a dvd ?
Why don`t you split it up into 2 X 3hrs?
On a normal Dvd, least as far as I know, you won`t get 6 hrs of quality. DVD Shrink may help with some "guidelines".
"ConvertXtoDvd" (Vso Software)too, (if your files are AVI for example) It will tell you how big (Gbs) your file is.
I`m really not sure why you want to "stretch" anything anyway.

Seems odd that you where unhappy with the results 4 hours gave you yet you want to go to 6 (???)

Who said I was unhappy?

For the purpose I was after (VHS SP quality) it was perfect.

The idea now was to fit 6 DV tapes in one DVD-RW, instead of 4, so I could select scenes for my edit.

The transfer was made with on-screen time-code.
