I have a problem with invaild dvd structure when using DVD Shrink. I then use DVD Decrypter but when copying files from dvd to hdd an error appears: failed to patch file reason invalid ifo/bup, this happens more than 3 times. When DVD Decrypter has finished not all the files have been copied to my hdd. About seven are missing. I have used dvd fab decrypter but the same thing happens like when i used DVD Decrypter. Also dvd fab decrypter tells me that some of the information on the disk can't be read.

what is the title of the dvd you are backing up? what region? dvdshrink and dvddecrypter are no longer updated so they are not sufficient to handle newer encryptions. do you have the latest version of dvdfabdecrypter? (you'll want to run the file through VobBlanker after fab and prior to shrink.) try the latest version (today) of ripit4me (see below) and if you are still having problems it could be the disk itself and you will need to exchange if for a new one. does it play properly?

hmmmm? that isn't a particularly new disk so it wouldn't have any encryption that should be a problem for fab/blanker/shrink. i was curious to see if ripit4me gave you the same problem/error. let us know what you try and what happens.

another thing. it might be that your drive is just having trouble reading that particular disk. have you checked it for dirt/scratches? if you have a dvd-rom drive you might see if that drive can read it better than the dvd-burner drive.

I tried to copy the film on dvd fab platinum but got a an error 400 and it just stopped the process. I used ripit4me and it failed to copy to two bups and one ifo, that failed aswell. I Have a dvdrw/r rom drive on my laptop. The disk has no marks or scratches on it's surface

yeah, that's what leads me to think there might be something physically wrong with that disk. any scratches or dirt or imperfections visible? sometimes a reader/player can read it fine, but the burner will have trouble reading it for ripping... do you have a dvdrom or another computer available to see if it can be read by another dvdrom or drive?

well, another option is to use ripit4me. you already have dvddecrytper and shrink, so you wouldn't have too much more work to do to get it set up... it has links for the fixvts download and a guide, and it is pretty easy once you get it set up... "one click mode" makes things pretty easy. of course if the problem is a bad disk that can't be read by your dvdreader/writer, then even ripit4me won't help. good luck. let us know what happens...

sorry to hear nothing is working to back up that dvd. i can't think of anything else except that either 1. the disk itself is bad, or 2. your particular drive can't read that particular disk for some reason. since you can backup other newer dvds with more current encryption we know the software is working properly. maybe someone else will contribute to this thread with an idea for you. sure wish you could try it on another computer to see whether or not it might be your reader. sorry i wasn't able to help you solve the problem. the good thing is you now have (and have some experience with) all the freeware tools available for backing up. the only other option that is really reliable at this point is to try the 21 day free trial of AnyDVD from slysoft. it runs in the background while you rip the movie. but since the things you have tried should have easily worked without any problem on the dvd you are backing up, i doubt that it would work, but you never know. best wishes. let us know if you find something that works and why things weren't working.

DVDFAB Decrypter should be able to rip any dvds/movies regardless if it's new released or old. If it's giving you some kind of errors, then it's either: the disc is badly scratched, a bad pressed or you have some other decrypting engines (i.e. AnyDVD or DVD43, etc.) running in the background.

I highly recommend anyone using DVDFAB to shut off AnyDVD, DVD43 or others while ripping via DVDFAB. The word is coming straight from Fengtao, the man (author) behind DVDFAB Decrypter himself.
