Is there any software that can be used to see if the burnt dvd conforms to the ISO9660 standard? I would like it to be a Windows program not a linux.

I have burn dvds using Nero and they will not play in a Linux machine.
I have checked out the dvd with CDBurnerXp Pro and it says it is a ISO9660 but I would like more info if possible on it.

Maybe I am asking the wrong question.
Is there software that will tell me if the disk conforms to standard dvd format?
I used the programs you suggested and get information the disk.
Nero was actually more helpful.
The trouble is I do not know if there is anything strange about these burn movies that would make them not seen correctly by a Linux machine.

So do you know of any software that will say yes this disk meets the standards.

Play it in a DVD player. Preferably an older one or a regular, cheap one not one of those do-all players like my Philips DVP-642.

-Do you believe you own your computer and shouldn't be told what you can run and do? Then say *NO* to Microsoft Vista!
-Since half the questions here involve media problems, here ya go: Only use Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden discs (get your TYs from Rima.com, not Supermediastore or meritline). Forget the rest, no matter what "brand" they sell under. Always burn at 4x speed regardless of the speed rating of this discs or your drive. If you have burn problems with these then you have to update your drive's firmware. For double-layer discs, only use Verbatim DVD+R DL and burn them at 2.4x speed.

It seems I have found my answer possibly to my problem.
It turns out to be the disks them self.

I know people have said to use quality disk in the past. So this is part of the problem here.

I basically use 2 different types of disks so far.

It turns out that every disk made by Playo does not work in Ubuntu but works in WinXp. These disk are advertised (Staples) as 8x burn rate but only will burn at 4x. Yes they are you cheap media, at $5.00 for 50. One other point here is that 2 different machines were use to test out the disks, this in itself could be a factor in the problem.

Now the disks labeled Nexxtech play in both Ubuntu and WinXP. Again this was on 2 different machines. These disk were also cheap media at $8.00 for 50.

One point for both media is both are 8x but I alway burnt at 4x never at the advertised rate of 8x.

So maybe some of the problems in fact are do to the media, maybe you might want to check the quality of the media.

I found that Video Help website has a data base of various disk you can search through if you want to know how good a particular disk is.

So is this the final answer to the question about the dvds, I really can not say for sure but this is what I discovered about my problem.

I would like to thank all of you that replied to my post for you help.
