I saved it as an ISO on my desktop but how do I compress it to 4.7 and then burn? DVD Shrink keeps giving me the Cycle Redundancy Error at 13% what other software should I try? I just need to compress and burn I have the data loaded from the original to my desktop.

what software did you use to create the iso? there may be some residual encryption and/or structural protection in place that could be removed by using VobBlanker or fixvts. i'd suggest using ripit4me or dvdfabdecrypter/vobblanker on the original disk, then using shrink (already part of ripit4me).

I ripped it into an ISO with DVD Decrypter but how do I burn it then?
Just use DVD Decrypter in write mode and write the iso file onto a dvd r? Will it play on a regular dvd player then? I am burning as an iso. How do I use ripit4me? any step by step instructions?

see my signature below for the download and guide for ripit4me. also see alkohol's guide for fab/blanker/shrink.

see this link for guides for all aspects of backing up:

http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/

especially the "DVDR: DVDR authoring and burning" section

you will likely still need to compress the dvd to get it to fit onto a single layer dvd, which will play on your standalone player. shrink is the freeware tool for that. not sure why you had the problem with shrink. let us know what you try and what works.

This is what I am trying at the moment:

I ripped the original with DVD Decrypter to my HD as an ISO now instead of using DVDShrink to encode the movie from the original in the dvd drive I will encode the ISO file on my HD that I ripped from DVD Decrypter.

Lets see how it goes I will update soon.

@henrykahn

i hope that works, but i thought that is what you had originally tried... running the ripped iso on the hard drive through shrink...

by the way, just out of curiousity, what is the dvd you are backing up? just wondering how recent it is and how current the encryptions and structural protections might be since dvddecrypter alone can't handle lots of things that have appeared in the last year-plus since dvddecrypter quit being updated. (ripit4me uses dvddecrypter but imports a psl file to handle the current encryptions, and dvdfab/vobblanker have their own methods of handling current anti-backup methods.)

I think the movie is Stay Alive. Is the Iso you created over 4.7 gb? If it is it must be recoded to fit on a 4.7SL DVD blank. If under just burn the ISO with Decrypter or use the upgrade burning program part of decrypter; ImgBurn from Imgburn.com

Like surfgeo said, you probably have encryptions in the ISO file still

Get DVD Fab Decrypter here: http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm

Rerip to a videoTS file with DVD Fab: run it thru shrink and create the ISO to burn with Decrypter. I have never used Fab just guessing that it will rip.

The easiest way is to download AnyDVD and try it free for 21days, then you'll want to buy it for $34.Upgrades for life makes all the oldies but goodies work again. AnyDVD here: slysoft.com

DVDFAB Decrypter should be able to handle this (STAY ALIVE) easily, get the latest version 3.0.2.5 here http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm

Good luck.

Thanks guys for your kind help here is how I did it:

1. Ripped Original DVD into an ISO with DVD Decrypter (5.3gb)
2. Ran DVD Shrink and shortened the ISO from 5.3 to 4.7gb
3. Burned the new 4.7gb ISO with DVD Decrypter.(I deleted all the ISO after burning, I always do).

It works. I would keep the quality and remove the menus but with this movie I wanted everything Its a nice movie.

I also was wondering a friend told me there is another forum which has a topic and in that topic they update everyday with new dvd releases and give info on what type of encryption they have and how to break them down each movie seperatly according to the type of encryption. Do you guys know of that thread or forum?

Once again thanks guys and if anyone needs help than they can email me I have little experience but I can try and help.just post here.

(Thanks for telling me about the email thing)

@henrykahn

glad you got a good backup. i'd suggest you remove your email address from your post. i believe it violates forum rules and could get you a large quantity of spam.

thanks for letting us know you were successful.
