I have a DVD (Sleepers - 1992) that has about 1 1/2 hours on one side and a little over an hour on the other. I want to back it up but see no reason to use 2 disks, would rather shrink it (if needed)and put it on one. Any ideas on how to make this happen??? Both sides appear to have same file names to start so cant just rip each side and put them in a single folder and run shrink. I'm certain this bridge has been crossed before, but not sure of the path.
Couldn't get it to work using what was suggested with shrink as main program. Fooled around and finally got a pretty darn good backup sans menus with Nero recode!!!! It was easy to do and didnt take long. Added menus when compiling files, but they didn't show up on the copy, which other than that was fine, with about a 67% ratio, resulting in a pretty clear picture. Also the 5.1 sound did carry over. Hope this helps somebody sometime.
When doing it with Shrink, you will have two titles. That means that after half the movie plays and the second half starts, the timer on your player will go back to zero. That's because the player see's it as another movie. Another way is to open the first half in Shrink. Select re author and drag the movie to the upper left box. Now right click on that movie and select Start and End Frames. There is usually a few seconds of black you want to remove. Click on the end frame and one frame at a time go to the movie appears and save. Now save those files to a new folder. Close Shrink and open Shrink again. This time choose the second half and then re author and then Start and End Frames. This time choose the start frames and one click at a time, advance until the picture appears. Then save. Then save to another new file folder.
Now close Shrink. Then try this method.
