I need to hook up a few computers for file sharing. I have cable internet and the they are hooked up via netgear rp614v2 router. I actually have set up the workgroup and transfered files from the laptop to the upstairs computers fine (both are connected wirelessly through access point connect to the router). The other computer is a hp xp mce. I have set this up and it even shows up under "view workgroup computers" for the other computers. But when I go to the hp and clip "view workgroup computers" an error shows up saying

"Mshome is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have network permissions.

The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available"

Any suggestions.

You need to put ALL computers on the network. Do the network setup wizard on ALL computers and make the name MSHOME.

Ok, Run the wizard on all of them again. Make sure all your IP adress's are set the right way, EG;
223.145.3.145 = BAD PAIR
154.171.172.6 = ' '

192.234.223.1= GOOD PAIR
192.234.223.2= ' '

Make sure they resemble eachother take my format for example, Wiht 1 number different. Also Make sure you have the same protocols and such (eg. TCP/IP, MS Printer and FIle sharing etc) on the properties screen of that connections, If all else fails, Try to 'Repair' the connection by pressing on the 'repair' button.

ok, i did everything again... probably for the 6th time... same thing, checked ip addresses, they were fine. i have another possibly related question. the media center computer has 3 different network connections, what are they all for? they are all enabled so i dont think thats the problem. i still have a hunch that its windows firewall, but it wont let me access it. any other suggestions?

go into services, make sure "windows firewall/internet connection sharing" service is running. if you dont know how to get to services just go to start/run and type services.msc.

also check event viewer for relevant errors, go to start/run type eventvwr.msc.

I did not see this "windows firewall/internet connection sharing" at all. I'm not sure what you would consider relavent errors for the second.
