Or go even cheaper and try getting a pioneer dvr-104 or dvr-103 refurbished. You dont really need the 4x speed the dvr-105 gives ya. Not to mention you would have to buy 4x dvd-r media to utilize it. 1x dvd-r media is way cheaper. 1 hr to burn a full dvd as oppose to 15 minutes is not that much fast.

lol - thats the most stupid thing i have heard in a while. 15mins comapared to an hour is not that fast????? Uh....I think not...I think it is very fast. I also think that at £99 what are you complaining about?? 4x media is not so much more expensive. You can get 4x media for as little as 79p per disc and 4x clone disc riteks for 99p per disc. Where is your logic??

I have Pioneer 105 and i dont see the sense in buying a 104 at all, think of even in the future when 8x dvd-r will be here, 4x wont be so expensive Shindou(which it isnt even expensive in the first place). However, still a forum to put in any input you want so i dont see what was so stupid about what you said! Oriphus mate if you find something that doesnt sound right dont call it stupid man lol, thats just ignorant!

Just to add.

The best burner is the one that does EXACTLY what you want to use it for.....

I use the grandpa of burners, the pioneer A03 - upgraded to 2x....

Now this burner is excellent - hasn't failed me yet!!!!!

However, what do you want to do:
Burn dvd-r or burn dvd+r or burn both?
Burn super fast speed, or not really bothered in speed?
Do you want an external usb/firewire burner or internal burner?

Generally the term dvd burner means it will burn dvd's.
There will be no quality difference between different manufacturers as they burn to specific specifications.

Personally, if I was you and format type is not an issue - ie you just want to burn -r, then the 105 maybe good - very cheap now as already said - and upto 4x.....

But you need to way up what you want to do with - its not what you do its the way that you do it and thats what gets results......LOL

If my burner bit the dust I would get the 105.

Me personally, would stick with pioneer......

...............PIO is no go, DMA all the way...............
Beware of the Pixies - they move in over night and turn your life upside down

Now that implies that the comment is stupid and not the person. I never once called Shindou stupid, but the suggestion that 15mins compared to an hour is not a big differences was a stupid one. Thats what i was referring to by my comment.

Anyway, just thought id point it out, lol ;-)

I recommend the Pioneer A06 it is fast extreemly reliable and burns good no matter what branded media. (however if u have extreeeeeeeeeeeeeemly cheap media i would recomend to write at 1x or 2x)

The 106 is a good writer and at £139, u cant go wrong. However, i still like the 105 and cant see spending out on the 106 as a + considering the 107 is only a few months away

I have a 105 and the only major difference between the 2 is that the 106 is +r aswell. My 105 is great for ps2 backups using good dvd-r media. When you talk about ps2's it is all down to the media used more than anything!
