I just recently started burning PS2 games and am having some problems finding the proper method for me. I've tried a couple different types of media. Verbatim lightscribe DVD+R 16x burned at 2.4x (taiwan) and Panasonic 1-8X DVD+R's burned at 1x & 4x(Japan) and I'm having mixed results. The Verbatims have horribly long load times on Final Fantasy 12 while the Panasonics have decent load speeds but I've had the game freeze on cut scenes. Also with the Panasonics I've had issues with some games just giving me a black screen in certain areas like when I choose "Kombat" mode in MK:Armageddon.

I've gone through the checklist posted by Paddymail and have updated my DVDdecryptor and the firmware for my Light-On DVDRW LDW-811s ( a few years old) which open up some new burn speed options in DVDdecryptor. The original Panasonic DVD+R copy of FF12 that I made was burned at 1x speed in DVDdecryptor and seems to work aside from the stuttering/freezing FMV sequences. After I went through the checklist by Paddy I was able to burn at 4x where as 1x was the only option before. I read on these forums somehwere that with newer media burning too slow is actually bad is that true?

This second copy has far fewer errors on NeroCDSpeed disc quality test (I think the PI Error average was around 5 and PI failure average 0.06) which I thought was a good sign except for the fact that they wont even load on my ps2. I use magic swap and a slider tool and it just sits on a black screen. Is a 4x burn too fast for PS2?

Should I try a different type of media? Do I need a new burner? Is the laser in my PS2 on crack? Any help or feedback is appreciated.

read the forum rules, no bumping is allowed. Try using DVD-R instead of the DVD+R.
