If I loaded my PS2 collection onto a hard drive will the games run smoother? I purchased Tales of the Abyss and I'm a little disappointed with the hitches that I get while on the world map. My plan was to buy HDAdvance 3.0 and a decent HDD and load up my games on the hard drive. I'm not expecting a huge difference but any bit would help. So will this method help performance in PS2 games? Even if only helps out a bit that would be great.

Yes they will run way quicker and smoother, in some cases games need to be set to load at standard DVD speed but that is very rare and they wont stuff up anyway.

If you havent bought HDloader yet try finding a mate who has either a modchip, Swap Magic or a copy of ARMAX or a newer Codebreaker. With these you can install the Memory Card exploit which will give you HDloader 0.8 which is better than HDadvance 3, and it can easily be updated.

Ok I think I will try the Action Replay Max. But will the Action Replay Max boot a CD-R? I read another guide that says you need to add files to the memory to add the HDloader exploit. I want to do this without modding my PS2 at all.

It doesnt really modify your PS2 at all. You just need a USB drive ARMAX all you do is setup a file on your computer then use ARMAX to copy it as a memory card save.

Aww man I think I bought the wrong AR max then... I went on eBay and found an ARmax for 21 bucks that comes with a memory card. Will all ARmax packages have this usb feature? I doubt though I guess I just bought the wrong thing huh?

*Edit*

From what I see there are two AR Max versions, One that is packaged in a blue box and another that is in a silver tin. I got the one in a blue box. It has a memory card but I can't find any good pics with what actually comes in the box. The ebay picture only displays the card, the DVD and the manual. This sucks... I hope I got the right one.

That ARMAX will still work using USB drive, you just need to find your own one somewhere.

So your saying I can use my own usb drive or do I have to purchase the one made by the Action Replay company? If I can use my own then hopefully I will be set :)
