I'm trying to backup my copy of Band of Brothers with the latest version of Clone and AnyDVD and find that it gives me an error message half way through. No difficulties with other movies. Anyone have any thought?

know this might sound stupid but try cleaning your disc again and then retry - when this happens to me I sometimes use Shrink to see if the movies runs through Shrinks first phase to see if goes through the whole movie sequense ( 1-2 minutes to do so) if it doesn't do it then would say if cleaning doesn't work you have a bad disc.

The error I get on each of the five disks is ""cyclic redundancy error". Tried cleaning...still no luck.

@jnordman,

I back up these not too long ago with CloneDvd2 and AnyDVD, no problems. Did 5.1 audio only, left out all other audio.

Try using a mild clear dishsoap. Don't dilute it, smear on both sides with finger. Then rinse under running tepid water. Dry with a lint free cloth, center to outside. Try to back up immediately. Sometimes the optical qualities of soap will help.

You can also run through DVDInfoPro or Nero Cd/Dvd Speed to check for CRC errors if you think you have bad discs. Surely one of the five must back up?

If you run into a lot of CRC errors, make sure your drive doesn't go into pio mode. You will know this has happened when it takes longer than normal to back up a disc.

Hi jnordman
Just to add to the others good advice - try ripping these with decrypter then open those files in Clone. Decrypter is a much better ripper than Clone imho especially if the discs have some scratches on them.
Decrypter can handle the copy protection on these so turn off AnyDVD when using.

Great post of your's - very infomative esp the CRC part causing the drive to slip in PIO mode.

Im not sure if anyone really cares but, I did the whole series by ripping with DVDdecryptor and burning with Nero.

Doesnt expecting the unexpected make the unexpected expected and therefore mean youre expecting the expected which was the unexpected until you expected it?

Just an additional info: If AnyDVD is installed and running, it will prevent optical drives to fall back to PIO mode. Unfortunately it doesn't "repair" this problem if it has happened, before AnyDVD was installed.

I didn't know that about AnyDVD - just another good reason to have it!

@WierdName
Comments on how to back it up are always welcome
