I have been making back ups for some time now and I would like to find out way in some cases I get a copy that will not play in one of my players.
I use a portable a normal player and a ps2 to test my back ups.
I made a wedding dvd and had the same problem.
my plug in dvd player is the one that will not play some copies.
I have used Panasonic, tdk, and many other discs.
I use your guides and have no problems using them.
I have tried the ones that did not work in other peoples players and some worked and some did not.
Is there something i am missing.

Make sure the type of media you are using is supported by your dvd player. It might be a good idea to use dvd+r's and booktype them to dvd-rom so they will be read on more players.

Its a funny thing some of the back ups played the first time then some weeks later they did note play.
could the player be picking up some data from the dvd and holding it or from another dvd that could cause this. please reply

that's a sign of cheapie media. use Tayo Yuden, Verbatim, etc, or at least media made in japan.

if your burner supports it, it's writing to an area on the DVD+R (not -r or RW's) that allows a player to read it as a DVD-ROM, increasing compatibility substantially.

Ah since they did play originally I would suggest it might be the media.
I only use TY's and verbatim.

you got yourself some good TY's. what speed are you burning at? go at half the rated speed of the discs. i think those are 16x, so go 8x max. don't multitask while burning. if your dvd player was made in the last 2 years, you don't really need to worry about booktyping.

I always burn at low speed after help from Valuka on Alcohol 120 forum, 4x, also pc is a bit old 5 years. But has done some fine work.
So I have good DVD-R and I use Shrink and Decryptor and Voblanker if needed.
I use Afterdawn help and guids.
What next, Do you get these problems?
Are DVD's always this trubleson.

i'm assuming most of your problems stem from not using these dvds in the past. burning is not troublesome at all once you have a good method worked out for yourself.

you might update your burner's firmware...while you're at it, be surre your burner isn't dying. you should be pretty well set, then.

YES I had some real problems trying to update my firmwere and not sure if i did it or not there was a mesage that if I did this it could not be changed. This burner was hard to find on the Sony site .
In the past I have used other DVD-R Manuf. MMC 004
Mitsubishi Chemical Co. would be the ones that are giving me problems no other info coming up.
How could I test my DVD-RW to so if it is OK, or test my burn method

just try a new firmware update--odds are, another has been released. you can only test your method by doing the entire thing and viewing the results carefully.
