I've been having problems with Monster House, myself. I've used nothing more than DVD Shrink and DVDFab Decrypter to copy hundreds of titles, and this is the first one I have ever had a problem with. It runs just fine through decrypter, but when I go to open the files in shrink, I get the error "Invalid data in VTS_01". How do I get this to work?

Hi mach1ne
Which version of DVDFab Decrypter are you using? The latest is 3.0.3.5 and there is also a beta version 3.0.3.6 you might want to try.
http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm

Another option is RipIt4Me - all free programs like Shrink, Decrypter, FixVTS.

Hi MaR2307
Sounds like the media to media to me. Memorex uses different manufacturers so you never know who you may get. Can be hit or miss - playing or burning.

Might try taking the burn speed down a notch. Firmware up to date on the drive?
Better media to use would be Verbatim or made in Japan Sony, Fuji or Maxell.

Oh and w/ DVDFab - don't have AnyDVD running - doesn't need it and can sometimes cause a problem.

I'm using the lastest version of Fab, which is the beta version. Fab is working fine. I just don't understand the "Invalid data" error when I try to open the files in shrink after running Fab.

Try to run your already ripped VIDEO_TS file through VobBlanker or FixVTS.

<><> Here's a few tips on the settings via VobBlanker <><>

* open up VobBlanker
* click MORE button under "Remove PUOPs in IFOs", then tick on the following settings:

* both "Fix always VOB SYNCI/SRI pointer in Titles & Menus"
* "Reorder VID/CID sequence if needed"
* use blank cells in unreference "middle" ones
* use blank cells in unreference "last" ones
* Renumber VID/CID
* Update STC
* Then click "Save to Registry", and "Apply", then EXIT from there
* Now go to FILE, then "VOBs Full Scan" <<==== this will scan the full movie (more safer), once scanning is done, click PROCESS!! as usual.

Or simply drag and drop your files into FixVTS and it'll clean/process them.

WARNING: Do not "update/upgrade" your SAMSUNG BD-D5XXX series (Bluray Player), or else you cant enjoy any of your movie files.

F I N A L L Y..............

I got another copy of Monster House. I was able to back it up no problem at w/ CloneDVD2 & AnyDVD in the background.

Funny thing though. When I tried using the AnyDVD Ripper, Ripped it to HD. After I tried to open the file up w/ Nero Recode2 & CloneDVD, they both had problems identifying it.

Oh well still backed it up w/ Clone & AnyDVD. I guess I did have a bad copy or press.

Never ran into that before.

i used to have this prob and have tried most programs but the easiest way around it is to connect your dvd player to a dvd recorder(make sure the dvd player has macrovision disabled) and then simply press record when the movie starts, just like the old video to video record but using a dvd player instead, takes however long the movie is to record but hey its another way around it

Just backed up Monster House with 90% compression, and menu functionality.

I used Ripit4me, FixVTS, DVD Decrypter, and DVD Shrink. (not sure on the order of operation)

Total time ~ 35-40 minutes ~

im not saying it is a quick way.. just that some red sony discs the puter wont look at will play thru the dvd player, so IF YOU OWN IT, you can make a backup copy as you watch it, ive never had 1 to fail in the dvd player

Just run AnyDVD 6.0.8.2 with CloneDVD 2.9.0.1. My old DVD-rom drive couldn't figure it out so I just put the movie into my second DVD rom/burner and it ripped it instantly and then CloneDVD burned it. I just had to physically take the movie out of the burner ( when CloneDVD told me to ) and put in a blank DVD +/- R. Voila!!!

p.s. Many of you have had this problem in the past with different movies......remember to just put the movie in a different dvd rom drive first before U start freakin' out.

Just to help confirm someone else's sanity, I've tried every app listed above (lastest versions), every method, every sequence, multiple copies of Monster House, and even three different PCs with three different DVD-ROM or RW drives, all to absolutely no avail. I just continue to get the same read errors in the exact same places (I don't think all three discs are scratched in the exact same spot). I, too, think it's weird that it works for some people and some people it doesn't. I'm not an expert at this, but I've been doing it for quite a while (since the SVCD days of yorn), so I'm definitely not just doing something wrong. I'm also a retired network engineer, so I know my hardware/software/drivers/etc. is all good.

I'm finding it amusing that I'm having so much trouble backing up a stupid kids movie, when Sony is busy releasing much more worldly/popular titles that I've backed up without issue at all. Okay, Sony -- you win. I won't back up Monster House. Oh, darn. My life is now ruined.

Now when they actually put all this crap on a movie I actually want to back up, I'm going to be severely ticked.

Looks like this one will be done with a non-ripping method, and then I'll just re-author it in Roxio or Nero or something and go from there.

Run AnyDVD in the background and use DVDFab Decryptor and then using the file from DVDFAB use DVD Shrink. Thats how I did and it worked perfectly.

I had Region + CSS Free running and used DVDShrink as normal and it worked with no problems at all. I had previously tried AnyDVD and it did not work for me.

You can't have everything. Where would you put it?

Hello, i am a newbie here. I was wondering if there was a way to back-up full disc monster house. I bought it and my 2 yr old newphew got a hold of it and now its scratch. I even went to the video place to see if they would do an exchange but no help they suggested i let them use scratch and remove. i paid $10 for it to get done but no help. I was wondering how can i back-up the dvd or my best bet is to wait and when its cheap just buy it.
Any input would be gladly appericiated.
Thanks.

Hi cereal14
Welcome to aD
This one has the newer copy protections on it plus you have the scratches (kids - hey it's why we back them up - no matter how old they are :)
Use RipIt4Me - uses Shrink, Decrypter (imho the best for scratched discs) amd FixVts - also handles the latest copy protections on this one.
Here's a step by step guide from alkohol with links to d/l the programs needed: link

I eventually did get a full backup of this movie, using DVDFAB and DVDShrink, but it took about 3 or 4 disc exchanges until I finally got a DVD that didn't report erroneous scratch errors during the backup process.

New here but been ripping for awhile.

Used CloneDVD and AnyDVD on monster house(newest versions)and seemed to burn just fine. When I play the movie the directors comments are on no matter what I do.(can't shut them off)
Went back and check my backup of Click and it's the same way.

Trying it with shrink right now.
I've never had so much trouble with a movie.
