I have a few Fujifilm DVD+RW which I have been using for temp data backup whenever needed for the last year or so. Recently, Nero stopped recognizing these as DVDRW and only sees them as DVD-ROM. I can use Alcohol 120% to erase them but if I try that with Nero it won't even recognize it as a RW media. My burner is ASUS DRW-1608P and I have the newest Nero and Alcohol versions running on XP SP2. Anyone with any tips for me to try would be appreciated. Any recommendations besides Nero to burn Data discs? Thank you

Try updating your burner's firmware first (if needed), updates provide added media support.

you can get it here;

Transfer all your data to your hard drive, then do a full erasure with Alcohol 120%. (I'm assuming you have been using the same drive all along. If not, there could be other causes for the problems.) Now check the disc in Nero to see if it still shows up as an unrecordable disc. (Another possibility is that the rewritable disc is so filled to capacity that the defect management area is restricted.)

Rewritable media are claimed to be good for 1,000 writes/rewrites, but many start to incur jitter problems from the breakdown of alloys after as little as 500 or fewer. The table of contents is rewritten each time new data are added to such a disc; so even if it seems that you are adding data to only the end of the disc, the ADIP area is being rewritten. For some software/drive combinations, that area is written over every time a formattable disc is inserted--and the number of rewrites adds up very quickly!

I have the newest firmware for my burner. I also tried doing a Full Erase with Alcohol 120% and Nero still doesn't recognize the disc. All this started recently after I reformatted my HD and reinstalled windows again. All other CD/DVD burning is fine, also these DVD+RW have been used way under 30-40 times, I have 5 of them so between them they don't get that much use. Any other programs I could use to erase or burn a Data DVD might help if anyone can recommend. Thank you for the help guys.
