I have a DVD-RW sohw lite-on 1633s burner, before it worked just fine, now it will play a cd but wont burn one, it makes a funny noise then it says drive not ready, insert blank disk, the retry. A couple of times it started to burn a cd, then it stopped saying unable to complete the process. It even sometimes said no media in drive, or drive not ready. someone please help, what could be the problem. Ive tried everything and ruined so many blank cd's in trying to fix the problem.

Try going to hardware manager and unistalling your drive. The reboot and windows will auto install your drive again.

See if that helps.

If these are new disks then it might be helpful to upgrade to this latest firmware edition (BS0Y)...if you don't already have it..

Hi, latina559! Use only media made in Japan. While media-related problems aren't as common as they are with DVD, media is always the most likely suspect.

-Since half the questions here involve media problems, here ya go: Only use Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden discs (get your TYs from Rima.com, not Supermediastore or meritline). Forget the rest, no matter what "brand" they sell under. Always burn at 4x speed regardless of the speed rating of this discs or your drive. If you have burn problems with these then you have to update your drive's firmware. For double-layer discs, only use Verbatim DVD+R DL and burn them at 2.4x speed.
