HI, i cant copy a DVD+RW usin Nero Recode2 (somethin in German came up in a dialog box) or DVD Shrink either!(invalid dvd structure)

The DVD was used to record on a DVD Recorder & i dont if this matters but the disc wasnt finalised, but i know DVDR's need to be fnalised to play on stand-alone players!

Hi Norm9
Try using Nero Express. Do a disc to disc copy using the copy entire disc option.

I think you have to finalize the disk first then you'll be able to make a copy of a copy using Nero!

Hiya binkie7,

I've tried Nero Express+Recode2 both have failed at 31%
But ah not to worry!
As IHoe was sayin i need to finalise the disk & then to copy it as i was hopin to delete some titles on the disk afterwards.

I thought i could do it, probably not realisin cos as i looked up the manual for the DVDR & it said i had to make the (DVDRW) disc 'compatible' (DVDR's=finalise) for other players, but i was able to play it on another dvd-player?

So another lesson learnt today!

Thanks for your help-both of yous!
Until next time

Update:

I've made the DVD+RW compatible for copyin-but to no avail, it wouldnt work (burn failed) in Nero Express/ROM-SE.
But i tried to not give up so i went in ROM SE again & look for the files -> by clickin on Edit -> Add files. It worked for a little while but when i went to burn, it stopped suddenly sayin 'Dvd compliance failed'

Now i dont know if i'm chasin a dead horse (forgive the expression) but if someone can tell me that i am, i'd be happy to leave it alone.
As i just wanted to send these tv shows to my cousin in Scotland who doesnt get them here, Cheers i'd be greatful or relieved!

Regards,
Norm9

Some stand alone dvd recorders use V mode and VR mode. I'm not sure which one is which, but one of those modes can only be read by another dvd stand alone recorder. The opposite is used to play them in other drives.

Last year a fellow AD member sent me some BBC flicks that someone sent him. He couldn't get any of his players to accept them. I successfully ripped them using Nero's disc copy, but made an exact duplicate of the same mode that was on his discs. Again, recorder would play them, but no stand alone player accepted them.

That disc was probably burned in the wrong mode to start with. I believe they need to be in V mode?

My solution: My cyberhome tv recorder could play them, and it sets all my backups to the correct mode.It has no option for both VR and V mode. So I went to wallyworld, bought another tv recorder, used that to play the backups, then burned them onto my cyberhome recorder. No trouble ripping them in the correct mode after that. I took that new recorder back to wallyworld and got my money back, LOL.

Look in the manual for something about V and VR mode.

BTW: On my setup, even if my cyberhome backups aren't finalized or made compatable,I can still re-rip them onto DVDR media from my benq drives.

Going to scotland: Then you gotta factor in the NTSC for us in the USA and the PAL format for over in Europe. Possibility your cous may get a black/white picture.

Yeah i thought that was the problem bout not finalizin/made compatible (but was still able to play on DVD-Players & the DVDRec. as well)

Yeah i know about NTSC/PAL as i can switch between the two on mine, but i think you'll get a B/W pic as i tried once, but forget about that! as the comedians on the disc "would turn the air blue-rather than the pic"
Cos isnt it something to do about the interlacing frames here that can take the NTSC picture? (something i read a while back :))

Cheers

Are you able to rip it to the harddrive?

Burned failed at 31%?

What's the brand name/format/and speed rate of those blank discs? MID code would be helpful-use Nero infotool.

DO you have the MID code for that RW disc?

Quote:
!(invalid dvd structure)
Bad RW disc? Dvd players can get through those errors, but a dvd-rom for a pc will have a harder time.

I searched in the Home Entertainment room for V and VR modes and couldn't find anything from the last 6 months. Catfreak would be the man for this issue. I haven't seen him here for a while.

Yeah i was able to rip it to the harddrive (it was the only thing i didnt think of)
As i had tried 1/1 copy with Nero & other combinations with Nero.
And a successful burn with Nero(6) but with mixed results!
Quote:
DO you have the MID code for that RW disc?
The Manufacturer ID = PHILIPS 041
Brand name = Tevion 4x (max) (i use these for my DVDR)

RESULT:
I have 5 titles on the disc.
1st = 9 out of 11 chapters can only be played before 'disk error/correction'
2+3 cant be played?
4th = 'disk error' & skips first 6 min?
5th = playable

What can you say? / Whaddya think! half-bad/half-good?

Philips isn't exactly quality stuff. Both r and rw media.

Same applies to tv recorders and pc burners-Media quality is critical. I learned that the hard way on my tv burner, LOL

Lets try a more aggressive route to rip it using DVD Decrypter- it's free.

Try DVD Decrypter, and change a couple settings:
Open up dvd decrypter/tools/settings: CSS- Set to brute force.
I/O- Tick the box so it ignores all read errors.
OK

Then open up DVD Decrypter :

Insert that RW backup
Mode ISO read--remember where those files go and click the harddrive/disc icon.

If not successful-probably a crc error,if successful:

Swap that RW for a blank disc:
Mode ISO write-click folder icon for source
Locate those files
Highlight the MDS folder, not ISO folder
Open
Select burn speed
Make sure your burner is listed as destination target
click harddrive/disc icon and away she burns.

There's a slim chance DVD Decrypter may be able to rip it.

UPDATE:

Hi Saugmon,

Success, but different to what you described.

I done what you told me to do with DVD Decrypter:
Quote:
If not successful-probably a crc error,if successful:
Not successful there:As here is the log, but i've shortened it so as not to take up much space, i hope you dont mind.

After that result, i went to use DVDFAB Decrypter (but i must mention i had previously used DVDF & not DVDD but this time i thought the Brute Force would help!?)

It took a while for DVDFAB to rip it, after that i used Nero EXPRESS to add files to the VideoTS folder & Burn, but this time i used the DVDRW disc,(as my coaster collection is rising) formatted the disc in the DVDR first beforehand as to play in it later! (you learn as you go along-LOL)As i think the pc does that & makes it unplayable!

15mins later & i have a complete copy-and all i can say is-WAHOO!!

Quote:

I had not realised that about Philips! but only use (Tevion-as its the only one's at moment i can find) it on my (Standalone)DVDRecorder alone.

But that is a strange result!
As i had burnt it to a TuffDisc DVD-R, MID below (& that was the result i got-some unplayable titles!)
From DVDD->Mode->ISO->Read (im learnin!)

Pre-recorded Information:
Manufacturer ID: CMC MAG. AE1 = i heard about
Crap More Crap in earlier posts, but 5/50 @ moment-touch wood!

Tevion: They got them at a local discount grocery called Aldi.
10 pks with slim jewel cases for $5. I think they were made in china or some other god forsaken country other than taiwan, japan, and singapore. I wouldn't risk it personally.

I consider a dvd recorder pertaining to what you hook up to the TV.Also call them stand alone recorders-you can see in the home entertainment section at AD. These drives are usually single format only. Now they're getting fancier with harddrives and dual layers. You hook these up via jacks and round cables, just like a vcr or a satellite reciever box. Looking at mine,I have wires out of the yang yang behind the tele, LOL

For the pc: We call them DVD-RW drives. They'll do both cd,dvd playing and recording with a built in dvd-rom. All these newer models are dual format and dual layer. Internal IDE-ATA/SCSI and external-USB2 and Firewire.

Also for the PC,there's Combo Drives: Dvd-rom/cdr-rw drives. These will play dvds and cds, burn cds,but no dvd burning.

A lot of confusion between the pc and tv burners.

There's a big difference when you're re-ripping a tv recorded dvd and a burned dvd from your pc. That's when you get into finalizing/making compatable/V mode/and VR mode.

CMC-Mags: They're mediocre for the quality scale. There's a lot worse out there than cmags like: UME/AML/MBI/Lead data. When issues arrise, that's the first thing to look at.

Yep,a bad sector. Similar codes would be CRC and Unrecoverable read error. Sometimes you can get lucky and get through them, majority of the time not.

That's why I try to make my first backups with as little errors as possible. You can't get a 100% error free back, but you can keep those errors to a minimum. I use Nero's disc quality scanning program. It'll show you all those little PIE/PIF errors, and give you a rating-starting with 99 being the best. The more errors, then that number drops.

I also found the burner quality can also factor in for those little errors. I've got the HP640c that have way too many crc errors on its backups,so I use it as a reader and light scriber only. No more dvd backups from that pc of crap drive, LOL.

Could not reply cos my broadband unexpectedly disconnected, after a few failed automatic connections, i went to the pub to watch Champions League for a while!
As i said you learn somethin new every day i just learn we're in UTC & not GMT? BUT they'll tell you anythin durin the half-time break!

But i gotta laugh, you say you's have Aldi's over there, i thought they only invaded Europe (if you dont mind me sayin!) As the whole country has them everywhere, & one openin up every so often!

The Tevion i get is 5pk with slim jewel cases for only
5.00 EUR/6.37035 USD (http://www.xe.com/ucc/convert.cgi) against ->
10 pks with slim jewel cases for $5/3.92340 EUR, Depends whether you're gettin a bargain or not, but they're a great store & if you have LIDL as well, then you're winnin!
But if i find anyother DVDRW elsewhere ill use them for the DVDRecorder.

I've noticed that DVDR means somethin else esp. when i looked up the glossary! Well at least i dont have to explain ALDI/LIDL!
Yeah mine is single format (DVD+R)fitted with Scart leads/Euro-av cables, fly-leads/male to male leads all for that crisp, clear connection! (it gets confusin the more you connect-even with scart adaptors!) but now theyre (HDD)Hard Disc Drive with 160GB, 7day EPG retailing at E399-250 but they'll not compete with (FOX's sister station's offer) Sky+ 80gb/TwinTuner =E69 with subscription

Sounds interestin,I must look into that as i think it had something to with the ripped DVDRW that it would only fit onto/play right on another DVDRW instead of a DVDR ?? just a thought!

I've only briefly used that as it has an option to capture screenshots but only in that operation, as i wasnt too familiar with goin into SAFE MODE on how to capture screenshots, as thats another story or another post if i get the time!

Ironically, my pc is the HP Pavilion XT978 from the US! as my brother was in Portland,OR for 9mths workin, 2yrs ago LOL
