i recently found my windows xp disk had a crack along the middle of it.
i dont know how this could have happened, but i was in a couple
of pc shops in glasgow today & they told me that if i contacted windows then they will send me a replacement free of charge..
they also said that it isnt the disk that you pay all the money for, its the certificate of authenticity & product key..
is this true & can i get a new disk from microsoft?
its windows xp home edition, version 2002 & includes sp2..
any help or suggestions is appreciated,
THANKS

IF you provide microsoft with proof of purchase and your product key, they will probably offer to send you a replacement disc for some fee.

However, you could also just try to make a copy of it (yes, this is legal if it is to replace a damaged disc), which would save you some cash.
I'd suggest using some high quality CD or DVD to make the copy.
