I have a Region 2 DVD movie (Europe?) that I want to copy to work in Region 1 (U.S.A.) DVDDecrypter had problems, so I used DVDFabDecrypter. That seemed to work to remove encryption. I then tried to use DVDShrink (using Nero) to burn the final DVD. It seemed to work, and the resulting DVD (like the original) plays on my computer, using InterVideo WINDVD. But neither the original nor the copy works on my TC DVD Player. I am told the DVD is out of area.

Is there anything I can do?

Using shrink, you should of been able to make the DVD backup region free or any region you choose in shrink's DVD region setting shown here;

Here you can select which region you would like, or make it region free. I make all mine "region free", if you want it to be region 1, then just uncheck region free and put a check in the region 1 box.

Note: Your player may need to see the correct region code for your area in order to play the DVD, if so, then choosing the region free setting will not work, choose region 1 instead when backing up.

Cheers.

gkmcaulif ,
You need to convert the PAL version ( region 2) to NTSC (region 1). You need to rip it to HD then Convert it from PAL to NTSC and then take that and compress those files to burn to a DVD-5.

Try this program as it is free:

boykiller ,
Sounds like something went wrong during the process. Try ripping the DVD w/ DVDFAB Decrypter to HD first. Then use DVD Shrink ( free) to make the disk. The only time that you increase in size is when you convert .avi's to DVD Compliant files

If you already had the VIDEO_TS or movie in your HD already and just want to change from NTSC to PAL or PAL to NTSC, then all you need is VobBlanker (it's totally free and process fast).

Good. It (VobBlanker) will work, at least it works for me. I've had convert some PAL to NTSC in the past and it worked successfully.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Find your manual for your standalone DVD player and google the model number. You should get an explanation of how to make it region free.

It worked on mine. Just a question of pressing a few buttons in a certain order. No need to open the box and get heavy duty screwdrivers or stuff like that.

It's a PAL problem for sure. The VobBlanker hack does not work for me. It's not really converting it's just telling the player it's NTSC, my older player didn't listen.

I've had good luck using NeroVision Express 3 to convert to NTSC. But no menus or subtitles, and the AR will be off slightly.
