I was wondering if a PAL -> NTSC patch is necessary for my v9 PS2 if I am planning on installing a Duo3 modchip.

It does say it is NTSC and PAL ready and that it autodetects the PlayStation 2 version and region (NTSC, PAL). However, I am not sure if this is sufficient for me to just freely burn all my games without worry about whether its PAL or NTSC.

Also, I created a backup of Gradius V, but its only ~400MB file. I was interested in knowing if I could just burn this backup onto a regular CD instead of wasting a much more expensive DVD-R.

Thanks! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

yes you still have to patch with duo3. I think gradius is a ps2cd game originally (check for yourself the original should have a blue bottom) so you should just back it up to a cd.

Edit:
you might also wanna look into the LA chip modification that is done on V9/10 because those had an issue of burning out.

NTSC DNAS threads.
