Hello all, Has anyone had an issue backing up the movie hard luck. I use DVD Decrypter, dvd shink, with AnyDVD running in the back ground. not sure if maybe i have a bad disc or this movie is highley protected. In the beginning of the rip it asking for the region. after the rip begins it comes up to a file where it gets read errors & it repeats itself overe & over. Any help would be greatley appreciated. Thanks.

Hi seadale
You may have a bad disc if it's getting stuck in one spot w/ read errors.
When using decrypter w/ AnyDVD - have these settings changed:
Go to tools>setting
General tab - uncheck 'check for structure protection'
CSS tab - check 'none' under CSS Cracking Method

You can check what protection this disc has on it in AnyDVD. Right click on the red fox - click on settings. Under 'program settings' check 'show information window on new media'

You can also try just running AnyDVD in the background w/ Shrink though if the disc is bad decrypter is a better ripper imho.

Another one you may want to try is RipIt4Me - all free programs & uses decyrpter and shrink too. Turn off AnyDVD when using.

thanks for the response. I'll check out the settings you gave me & see if that may be the problem. I half way suspect it is a bad disc, in all the movies i have backed up there has only 1 i couldn't do. "Brothers Grimm". So i guess the only way to check if the disc is bad is to try to watch it? , am i correct or is there another way. Thanks again.

No problemo seasale:)

You could run a scan for CRC errors if you have Nero. Just go to NeroToolKit>CD-DVD Drive Speed>ScanDisc tab and run.

The disc may be playable in a player. They can be more forgiving on bad spots then a drive trying to rip. The drive tries to rip every byte. So playback is not always the best test for being able to rip.

If you have another drive - drive that one. Some are better than others when it comes to bad discs.

well i changed both settings as you suggested, still getting the same problems. Should i just leave the settings you suggested i change for future use or should i change it back to the way i had it?

thanks again!

one more quick question. Would you happen to know if you or anyone else has had problems backin up this movie? Did a search did not see anything. Managed to rip it but had to skip 3 files, probably butchered the movie doing so.

Depends - if you will always use AnyDVD w/ decrypter then you can leave them (alot of newer movies decrypter can't handle by it's lonesome).
If not then just change them back when AnyDVD isn't on.

Haven't done this one - I just saw an ad for it today. I like Wesley Snipes so will probably pick it up.

Set AnyDVD to show the protection/disc info -that will tell you if this is a toughy or not. You can copy & paste it here if you like.

If you see ARccOS or Ripquard then yep it has the new stuff but that doesn't mean it can't be done :)

Depends on which files you skipped - if main movie then yeah might have screwed it up. Play it back from the pc and see what happens.
Hopefully those bad files were the special features that got skipped.

Oh and you're welcome :)

Did this one a couple of days ago. Used FabDecrypter 3.0.3.0 and Nero Recode....worked perfect. Movie isn't one of Snipe's best though.

@CBRETON
Worth watching though? Loved Snipes in the Blade movies to name a few.

ANY of Snipe's movies are worth watching! It's a little chopped up and looks like a shoestring budget. Didn't seem too "professional" but that's just my opinion.... and you know what Dirty Harry says about opinions.

LOL
Txs for the critique CBRETON. I'll pick it up soon cause I agree too that all of Snipes are worth watching! It's the only reason I gave this one a 2nd look :)

Thankyou for all your help binkie & others. I ended up watching the original dvd, with no issues on the dvd player. For some reason this movie was impossible for me to back-up using decrypter & AnyDVD running in the back ground. Is rip4me a free program, never heard of this program 'till now. Might have to give it a shot. Thanks again.

You're welcome seadale :)

Yes - RipIt4Me is all free. It also uses Decrypter, Shrink an FixVTS.
Here's a guide w/ links to download the programs you need:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/360110

Turn AnyDVD off before using. If you forget RipIt4Me will give you a warning and will turn it off if you like.
RipIt4Me will also change the settings for Decrypter to work best w/ it. It will also give you the option for it to revert back to the ones you had when done.

Give it a go and let us know!

Tnx again Binkie, so since i'm not familur with ripit4me. can you give me a quikie on how it is used. Does it run in the background like AnyDVD, or does it take the place of DVD Decrypter. Sorry i;m not familur with the program. You have been of great help & i really appreciate it. One more quick question. do you think the butterfly movie download site is worth the $39.00 & using this could i cancel my membership with blockbuster if you know what i mean? Tnx once again!!

Hey seadale
The link in my post above has a mini guide on using it. It's basically a program that pulls together 3 apps - Decrypter (& creates a PSL plugin for decrypter when needed), FixVTS and Shrink.
May seem a little intimating at 1st - but once set up not that bad.
Here's a full guide for it:
http://ripit4me.org

You can also try CBRETON's way too and use DVDFab Decrypter(free) - you'll just rip to your hard drive then open those files in Shrink.
If AnyDVD is turned on - turn it off. This one will also give you a message saying AnyDVD is on do you want it to turn it off.

Hmmm never tried the pay sites to download movies :) but some may have copy protection on them so burning unless you have something to get around it may not work.
Then depending on format they are in you might also need to convert them to play in a player. Can always just watch them on the pc though.
Oh and no problem on the help!
