hey everyone, this forum is really good, and the guide above too, but i still failed :(
i have a flashed 360.
i have brought games and they work fine, so i brought the same media traxdata.
i have a laptop sony vaio fs115e, so i installed clonecd 5.1.2.9 and i got a pioneer 111d recorder, and an external caddy, with USB 2.0 connection.
i plugged altoghter and the laptop found the new hardware and installed itself. i did have the driver cd in the laptop drive which came with the caddy, but guess that was for win 2k, as thats what the instruction book said.
Anyway i set about, unrarring my game. all excitied, first time doing this, really feeling proud that i could be doing something interesting here. got the 2 files - small .dvd file and the 7gig .iso file.
opened clonecd selected the source had the traxdata in the drive, and selected burn at 1x speed. it done 4% then seemed to die - everything went to zero - the buffers & the burn speed-everything!! and stayed like it for over 20 mins. but it didnt freeze as the timner telling me how long it had been going for still went up, and i could here the burner whiring, but the light on the front was out (i think)
what made the buffer die? I believe this id very important in burning? does it need increasing?
what have i done wrong?
i explored the driver cd, and ran the .exe for usb2.0 (but i would have guessed this was enabled on the hardware already being win xp???)
i went to install the caddy driver but it asked if i wanted to uninstall the caddy, so i declined that.
I could really do with some help here, especially as its my first attempt, i would like it to go pretty smooth. the game is splinter cell alsstars PAL version. nothing in the .nfo reg SS files so guess the download is good to go as it is.
kind afterdawners. please get me on the right track, i am picking up more traxdata dual layers later today hopefully.

(this was the first burn i atttempted on the burner, i am going to try a cd rw with some data to see if buffer dies.
i have done everything the guides say to do thou. im on my knees begging, kind of....

I had the same thing happen to me although I have a little different set up than you. I bought an external 111d. I placed my backup in a folder on the desktop. Opened up clone cd and hit the second tab (write from image file) and opened up the file on the desktop and it showed 1 small dvd file and 7 different game files numbered from 001-007. I started the download and everything was fine, then it stopped, everything went to zero after about 15 minutes. Then it came up with an error. I pulled the dvd out of the drive and it had burnt only half of it. I also need some help...

You did select the .dvd file when using clone, right? Also, did you update the firmware for the burner? Make sure you're running the latest. And stick with 2-2.4x burning. And really, traxdata is not the best media to use in the 360. Verbatium is recommended.

Although it's brand new, the mfg. may have updated the firmware since it's build date. Here's pioneers firmware site: http://wwwbsc.pioneer.co.jp/product-e/ib...ev00001r_e.html . I don't know if the ext. and the int. use the same firmware. You'll just have to scroll down to your model and download the firmware. Once it's dl'ed it's real easy to run. Took less than a minute for my internal. One of the benefits of always running the latest firmware is more media supported and better burning.

yeah, make sure you are selecting the .dvd not the iso to burn, and also go with 2.4X.

peace

just tried burning a cdrw, gave 2 options, 1 was 4x at 600k/s or something similar to that, the other was 10x, i tried 4x, and it failed again, this time with Nero ultra, so i then tried 10x thinking that maybe the usb2.0 is sending info too quick, and the burner is going too slow? 10 x worked, although seemed quite slow compare to P.C.
so i then tried 4x again, and 4x worked too.
could it just be that its a new burner and needed warming up?
when i get new dvd dual layers i`ll run a test burn again on a cdrw at 4x, then i`ll try dvd, i`ll "warm" it up first, but this shouldnt be the case, i woulnt expect to buy a new washing machine and have to wash a pair of socks for the first couple cycles to warm it up!!
also one last question, can Nero burn xbox360 .isos?
what is it the clonecd 5.2.1.9 does so well?or is it not even worth attempting using Nero?

from what ive read around here, Nero has a hard time putting the layer breaks in at the right place, where-as with clonecd, it puts them in correctly everytime. so that might be why Nero wont burn them for you correctly.

just try imgburn (www.imgburn.com) (free) that's good for burning the layer break correctly

edit- Indeed, Nero 6 can't handle the layer break; not sure even Nero 7 can handle the layer break.

how comes the burn speed drops to naught also thou? that shouldnt stay like that, surely? does it jump about during the burn?
postman dont come till afternoon nowadays, so have to wait, but only have 1 DVD+R d/l verb coming, so dont wanna waste, will try the cdrw again, and make sure that burns, then try the dvd.
has anyone else got an external burner setup with laptop, or even pc, and have different method, or different problems?

You need to use DVD+R DL discs for 360 games. You also need to make sure your burner can booktype them to DVD-ROM. Alot of the newest firmwares allows for non bitsetting but it's still better to do it. Also, Nero will NOT work for 360 games. DVD Decrypter does but you have to manually set the layer break. Try Clone CD. If you need a copy of it, send me a PM

got/done all that.
I have got my verb disc, just put a cdrw in pioneer and choose burn at slowest speed - 4x, it failed at lead in and out?/
so choose 10x and it is doiing it? i do not want to burn at the fastest speed, as i know it wont work!
ill try the cdrw at slowest again, after it dont fastest, see if that works, but really dont know any other way, what is the burner tripping on? why dont it do what it should be able to do reletivly easily.

well first off all you can not use a cdrw. it was mentioned allready but you didnt read or listen to it. you must use a dvd dl. so go out and buy some verb dual layers, and burn it with clonecd, at 2-2.4x and it will work fine.
