oh dear, i got all excited when someone replied, wabashman, please read the full thread - i have used traxdat and verbatim dual layer +r disc`s, i have the recommended clonecd, and i have a pioneer 111d with latest firmware - as recommended.
the cdrw bit was an example, explaining the problems with the burner, and proving that the burner works./isnt faulty, it may have helped somebody to answer my question/problem correctly.
the laptop has usb 2.0- the external caddy for the pioneer burner is connected thru this, and i believe the laptop is running xp with service pack 2. (cannot 100% confirm service pack)
but the burn stops at 4% buffers are at zero, same with burn speed.
but after 50 mins it did say 100% complete, but burn failed.

well to confirm if you have service pack 2, just go through "control panel" and then through "system" and it will let you know if you have service pack 2 or not. also when you open up clonecd, and click the second icon on the row, and after you put in the game file, is there a little icon showing "dvd-rom" in the main box? and dont worry about the buffers being at 0, they are like that for everyone, that is not whats causing the failed burns.

hey guys why did i burned my nba 2k7 with clone cd and then when i want to play i couldnt coz my xbox read it as a normal dvd(it says play dvd)i burned the dvd file like everybody saying...and my drive is a pioneer 111D with the new update and i also burned 2x-2.4x...im goin nuts with this...what is a ss bin file?do i need that to run the game?where can i get it?i also tried ss merger 1.6 and he couldnt find my nba file...man i dont know no mo`...i also burned in a verbatim DL(ant they xpensive)

Get the ss.bin files from ps2nfo.com
The ss.bin file must be inserted into the .iso or they will always say "play DVD"
ss.bin is the security sector. You can insert it with SSMerger 1.7

hi guys...
i have a strange problem with my backup iso`s.it happens at least 1 in every 3 iso`s burned,i get a ring of what looks like "missing burn" i mean it starts to burn then looks like it skips a section and then restarts the burn again a bit further on into the disc and it will load after maybe 10 attempts.and then if i do another of the same iso it could be fine and load instantly.im using anything up to 3 verbatims a game here and getting a little frustrating...any ideas as to what it is would really help.

im using..............clone cd 5.2.9.1 full version
pioneer 111d with f/w 1.29
schtrom v3 extraction tool
samsung sh-162c dvd rom with kreon v81 f/w
verbatim dual layers (ouch)
please help...thanks very much
