Hey guys,

Been checking out lots and lots of threads here, and a lot of people are saying different things about which way is best for playing backups on a PS2. I've also learned it heavily varies from the choice of medium and the Playstation version.

I was just wondering what you guys recommend for backups... Burn bitchanged high quality DVD+Rs to DVD-ROM, or flat out burn to high quality DVD-R? The PSTwo will be version 14. I just want to go easy on the laser and make this one last.

easiest way to play backups would be to get a modchip installed or buying a pre-modded system. Most ps2s read DVD-R better but, the newer ps2s can read both + and - well. I would also recommend not going above 4X when burning.

NTSC DNAS threads.

@melter - Really? Standard DVD+Rs read in modded PS2s? They didn't in my old one... guess it has something to do with the chip or PS2 model. Unless you mean you changed the bitsetting ;p

@WEStar - Yeah, I'm getting one pre-modded this time around. I usually burn the discs on the low/near lowest speed since it always seemed to make the games more stable.

Thanks for the tips so far guys :D

I would suggest going with a Hard Drive / Hdloader combo...
No Strain on your laser makes the PS2 last alot longer... a Backup Cd is going to put strain on the laser no matter if you're using a swap disc or a mod chip....

if you're going to go premod go with a modchip that supports HD and then you'll have the best of both worlds...

I used HDLoader for the longest time. Trouble is the PS2 just stopped reading all forms of network adapters, which is why I'm going with the method of just reading discs. Even with HDLoader, certain games would not play anyway, even when I tried using modes 1, 2, and 3.

I appreciate the suggestion though.

Well that's why you get a modchip that Supports HD then you can use the Backup Discs and Chip for games that aren't HD Supported...
