Do I Un-Hook the SATA that Is on the 360, Put the 0800 mode Disc In Drive , Leave the 360 on then Hook the SATA from 360 to PC and perform the upgrade ?... Going from xtreme 4.0a to 4.2b

From what I've read, you need to have the 360 drive plugged in but don't turn it on. Get to the dos prompt and type mkflash (or whatever you samsung guys have to do) and then boot the 360 with the disc in, wait 15 seconds and then press enter.
