I am coming from the PC gaming world (even built my own rig). I burned an image file using Image burn on a DL Sony Disc and that part seemed to go ok. Do I need to update the firmware to get this disc to play? I am not on 360 Live yet, do I need to be on that to update the firmware?

AND YES...I am a newb, if you want to flame me, go ahead, if you can give me the answer or point me in the right direction, then THANK YOU.

Hi
You do need to flash your drive to get it to work, and you should probably be burning the image with clonecd. You can read all about flashing your drive here, you do not need to be on xbox live, that has nothing to do with updating the drives firmware.

What you will need and how to do it, you can get the firmware for your drive of any torrent site.
