Hi all,

Purchased a 360 today with Samsung TS-H943A drive.

I have it open, sata connected and all ready to go.

The problem is i cant get my bootable discs to work. I dont have a floppy drive on my PC and ive tried to make a 'boot-able' CDR with Nero but it dos'nt seem to want to 'boot'

Im defo not an expert in this area so need a little help if possible.

I burned 'MTKFLASH.exe' MTKFLASH.typ' 'XTREME.bin' & 'XTRM0800.bin' to a CDR (in Nero bootable cd section) but PC just opens the folder to reveal the 4 files when i insert CD.

I understand i may have to set up my BIOS so it reads the CD drive first? is this correct? and if so, how do i get into my BIOS to do this??

Thanks a lot guys, im almost there !! (i hope)

you could use an external floppy drive. or i believe you can also use a usb flash drive. the flash drive method wouldnt work for me, but it may be becuase of what kind of drive it is. but im pretty sure that heard you can use the usb flash drive to work.

Well, I would suggest you buying a floppy drive, it's no more than 8 - 10 bucks, it might come in handy at another time..

So floppy is the only way?

I took an old floppy drive from an older PC i have but there dos'nt seem to be anywhere to plug it into my motherboard. The connections on the lead for the floppy drive look the same but they are actually smaller.

Maybe there is a usb floppy these days??

So a pen drive would work?? I could get one of those right now lol

Thanks

Well, the pen drive idea didnt work for me either.

Im defo going to buy a Floppy drive tomorrow, but 1 question before i do.

As my motherboard dosn't have a floppy drive slot im going to buy an external usb floppy drive. I take it this is ok to use??

Maybe there's no difference, im not a floppy drive kinda guy. As long as it has the drive letter 'A' i'll be happy.

Thanks all

Well, i installed floppy about 10 mins ago, seems to be fine but the problem is, when i get to the part were i select Slave/master (i know its master) it wont let me select anything.

Ive tried all keys, with and without caps lock on and typed in various commands but all i get is the small blinking white line.

It says:- Port (With a letter) & Slave/Master a0

Any ideas guys? am i doing something wrong??

Thanks in advance.

Yes, no problem there, it boots into DOS fine but all i get is the same port, master/slave message.

I have a Samsung TS-H943
My motherboard has 4 SATA connectors, XBOX in SATA0 & HD in SATA2.

Thanks

Tried taht but still no joy.

After raeding more tutorials i found out that my drives FW is ms28, and that needs to be flashed in another way.

I found a ms28 video tutorial and followed instructions (editing the .bat files) and tried but still nothing.

The only thing left to me is have i got a compatible SATA chipset.

I have an ATI RC410+IXP 450 board with 4 SATA connectors. Does anybody have this or know if it works??

The next option is to buy a PCI SATA card to be sure.

I hope 'PC World' in UK sell compatible ones !!

USB flash works fine. Gotta make sure it's formatted to be bootable, first. You just can't throw the mtkflash on it and go. Only takes a minute to make it bootable.

When you power on your pc, enter the boot screen and select usb hard drive.

512 meg. flashes are always on sale for $20. I've never trusted floppies. They degrade and corrupt too easily.

Plus, it's 512 megs for $20 vs. 1.44 megs for $10. And you can always use the flash for other storage. Can't do much with a floppy anymore.
