you can always use the knoppix live linux distribution and save all the files on the hard drive to a flash drive.

Go find and download "Hiren's BootCD".
It has some password tools that can retrieve, change or delete the password.

I think you will find that "The Ultimate Boot Cd" will do what you need. There is a tool to remove passwords or tell you what the password is. I think it is also open source and free. You can find it here at www.ubcd4win.com/.

If the password has been set in the bios and comes up before windows loads you can get around this by removing your bios battery for about thirty seconds then replacing the battery, or activate the bios reset jumpers on the motherboard if it has any. If the password is set in the windows software itself, you can remove the hard drive and place it in another computer as the slave drive and access your files that way. If it is formated in the windows xp ntfs file system you will need another windows xp system to access the drive as the slave.

That's not entirely true. There's quite a few Linux distros you can add NTFS read/write support to. Some now come natively.

@ mm2000y : Do you realise that what you said is 50% wrong ?
There are tons of ways to retrieve those winxp passwords, the disc i suggested can retrieve or remove passwords 100% of the time.

^^I'm with him. I have used Hirens CD several times (even sent it to a few members here). Has worked everytime. And most of the live linux CDs have NTFS support these days.
