i dont use the live stuff so can i still get the updates anyway?

it is modded and all backuups work so far, but i dont want the live stuff , just to have all the updates and still use backups..

i may be stupid but the 'ban' is only from live yeah?

There is no ban yet from live. If you want the update you must connect to live. I'm sure they will have the update on a newly released game (NFS:Carbon maybe?) but other than that, I'd just connect to live unless you don't have broadband. Xbox Live Silver is free.

I don't even play online at the moment. But is all the new stuff in the update actually worth the risk of downloading something that may have a firmware ban hidden in there somewhere.

The only thing that I want is the upscaling for High-Def. I'm assuming it would make a difference on my LCD through the VGA cables.
