Fourthly, use high quality recordable DVD disc like Verbatim, CMC, Ritek, Sony, Fuji, etc. Avoid using cheap discs.

CMC = high quality? LOL. Verbatim is 1st class media, Sony and Fuji is decent, but make sure it's "Made In Japan", then your safe. Some of them Sony & Fuji "MIJ" are made by Yuden Co. Ltd. which is genuine Taiyo Yuden. However, they're rare to find nowadays. I have no comment on "Ritek" because I no longer use them.

<><> Easy FREE tips/ways to rip any dvds/movies<><>
* simply use the latest from either DVDFAB Decrypter or RipIt4Me to rip into HD, then continue on with any of your desire "transcoder/encoder" engines and you're free of worries.

As for quality; I use nothing but DVD-RB Pro + CCE SP 2.70 with 3 PASSES to encode. Second is Nero Recode with "Advanced Analysis + HQSR + Assign Best Quality to Main Movie" or simply use the new "Recode AEC changer" patch by Solomon, which does the same thing as DVD Shrink's "Deep Analysis + AEC: Max Smooth/Sharp".

WARNING: Do not "update/upgrade" your SAMSUNG BD-D5XXX series (Bluray Player), or else you cant enjoy any of your movie files.

I simply use DVDFabdecrypter and DVDShrink and auto burn with Nero.

All settings are left at default, and I only use Verbatim MiT or MiJ whatever I can get at the time.

Having been reading this forum for quite a while now, all advice is excellent, first class, top notch and in my own humble opinion, alkohol is always right.

Edit:- What I should have said is, all settings are left at default except disc size in DVDShrink which is custom set to 4360

I do not know DVDFabdecrypter and DVDShrink. I use spam express as I need to copy protected dvds. I have many such dvds. I like it. What impressed me a lot is that it allows me to remove DVD menus, select subtitles and audio tracks, or copy main movie separately to create customized DVD copy.

If thats what your happy with, but I see that it costs!

DVDFab is a free decrypter, and DVDShrink has many tools and tweaks to allow you to copy main movie only, edit out FBI warnings, trailers etc, customize to burn with IMG - this is all free by the way -

Read about DVDShrink here :-

Hope thi helps

Xilisoft? Never heard of it until now. $45 for just the ripper and $99 for the Platinum? Hmmm.... the choice is yours.

Me, I love free tools, simple and easy, so either DVDFAB Decrypter (FREE) or RipIt4Me (FREE) are 2 of the best free rippers at the moment.

<> Here's one of the best FREE route/methods to rip and backup dvds/movies <>

<> either rip it with the latest from DVDFAB Decrypter or RipIt4Me
<> Transcode with DVD Shrink
<> burn your VIDEO_TS or ISO (your choice) with ImgBurn

All free and simple.

I only wish I had the $2,000.00 to blow on CCE SP 2.70 so I only use the basic version with 2 passes.

Good news is I now have DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink, Ripit4Me, VobBlanker and ImgBurn all running on Linux!

Way to go Wild77!! Good for you, especially Linux. Glad everything is working for you now.

You'll be surprised to see how awesome and fast DVD-RB Pro + CCE SP 2.70 can do, encode all your backups and produce great quality. Even with my old P4, 2.67GHz, I can successfully encoded "Main Movie + Menu" (modified from VobBlanker) using DVD-RB Pro + CCE SP 2.70 (2 PASSES) within 1 hr 30 minutes. Believe it or not, that's the same amount with DVD Shrink via "DA + AEC + Max Smooth."

I'm with alkohol. for the best video quality and even free dvd rebuilder and HC encoder by Hanks can not be beat. as with most transcoding/encoding utilities, the dvd must be ripped to your hdd 1st using a ripping utility such as dvdfab hd decrypter or ripit4me. for even more features I highly recommend upgrading to dvd rebuilder pro for only $30 and for faster encoding you can purchase cinema craft encoder basic (CCE) for $60.

dvd-rb pro will give you the option to encode full disc, movie only, movie and menu only, or movie and menu slideshow extras. it will also automatially buid an iso (if you choose) and automatically burn with imgburn or DVD Decrypter (if you choose).

if you want to remove material such as previews, warning screens, adverts, and choose which extras you want to keep you can use VobBlanker (freeware) or what I prefer dvdremake to edit.

I've used, own or have owned most backup software and for anything requiring more than 80% compression, nothing compares to the video quality of dvd-rb/cce.

it can be slow and time consuming with older slower single core pc's but there is also a feature called batch processing that will let you load several folders into dvd-rb and it will encode them while you are sleeping or at work. good things come to those who wait. with my intel C2D E6600 cpu I can encode an average sized folder in about 40 minutes. slower pc's can take up to 4 hrs +.

Hey alcohol, is there a way to play ISO files without burning them? I love the compactness of the ISO files and want to make menus for using them on a TV kinda like a jukebox. But havent found anything to read the ISO in native format without burning them. Any thoughts?
