Some Windows settings on my computer seem to have changed. These are not major issues, but they are bothersome and I'd like to restore them to their previous state, or know why these changes have occurred.

1 Before I removed a thumb drive I used to get a message, "Safe to remove hardware" when it was safe to remove the drive. Now that message no longer appears.

2 Changes in a file used to be echoed onscreen, now they're not. I delete a file from within an application, while the folder containing the file is open on the desktop. Previously, the change was echoed almost immediately--now it's not echoed at all. You see the changes only if you re-open that folder.

3 I used to use Media Player Classic as my default application for mpeg files--click on the file and it would open in Media Player Classic. Now I get the following error message: "[filename].mpg is not a valid Win32 application." I can still play mpegs in Media Player Classic, but only if I open the file from within Media Player Classic. This one's a bit more bothersome than the other two.
