Can anyone please help me out with this. I am looking for someone to share their knowledge of newsgroups with everyone by possibly making a tutorial. I have downloaded many files through bittorents in the past, but newsgroups seems to be the way for the xbox 360. I have downloaded a few programs, read their help files, tutorials and even contacted my isp tech support and I still don't know what's going on. I been to the binsearch website, but once I click on the nzb for a particular file nothing happens with my newsgroup client. I tried using Newsgroup pro and a few others but it's a pain. I have a free newsgroup server through my isp which I successfully configured through outlook and newsgroup pro but I don't seem to know what I am doing. Bittorents wer e so simple, click and download. Now....what are the advantages to the paid newsgroups servers as compared to the free isp ones? and can anyone share and recommend any good appz for newsgroups and which servers they use (free or paid). Thanks!

Download your NZB.

Go on newsbin pro, open up your NZB by going on File - Open download list

Your files will appear in the post list tab. Highlight them, right cick and download

Read all of this guide if you haven't already and then come back with your questions. BTW, I use Giganews for my paid news server and Xnews as my newsreader.

thanks all for the quick reply! Memnock i sent you a pm so please check it out when you get a chance. Okay I just joined Giganews. Setup my xnews appz newsgroup reader. Now I am able to see all the group newsgroups, but I am somewhat confused. Let's say I go into the newsgroup (server list) to select my server, and then I get to see all the files the server has to offer. Now...what gets me confused is the amount of files that seem to have the same file names. I am used to using torrents and .rar files but I don't even see the 00.rar files to a particular backup. I don't know where to start clicking to download.I mean the .rar numbers are all over the place and then I see that a particular backup might has numerous .rar files and it repeats itself. Something like this,

BURNOUT REVENGE - XBOX 360 - ISO KINETTE.part063.rar
BURNOUT REVENGE - XBOX 360 - ISO KINETTE.part063.rar
BURNOUT REVENGE - XBOX 360 - ISO KINETTE.part063.rar
=BURNOUT REVENGE .vol029+20.PAR2
BURNOUT REVENGE - XBOX 360 - ISO KINETTE.part069.rar

I don't see any low numbered .rar file instead they will start in the low 60s and top off at 113?

so in this case do I just choose all files associated with this and then choose decode? I mean is there just one file I can click on that will highlight all the files for a particular backup rather than me scrolling down one by one and manually selecting them? Also I read the .par files are for reconstruction purposes. Should I be downloadiang those too now?! what's the deal. lol this is just so overwhelming. But again, thanks for all the help!

When are they dated? Giganews goes back 90 days. So either it was posted toward the 90 day mark or you didn't pull down all the headers. A few tips for Xnews are:

- Set the view to threaded view and auto collaspe
- Sort the post with the tabs by poster or name when getting the headers together for the files you want to download
- Use the filter window on the bottom middle of the screen. You can clear it by hitting the S next to it
- Download by highlighting you headers and hit that button on the bottom that looks like a broken all grey rubiks cube.
- Know this program can suck up a buttload of memory.

Xnews has SO many different things to figure it out, but it such a great all purpose newsreader. That's why I use it. I'm pretty close to having it all down after serveral years, but it didn't take me long to figure out the basics.

I second Xnews. It may appear complicated, but it's rather easy. You can sort by date, name, ect... Most releases have a particular name so after the headers are threaded, you can search the name of one file and get the whole list. Click the score to add it to the que. Click the decode button to download and go to bed. I downloaded 5 games last night while I was sleeping. And yes, he's right about the memory hogging. Xnews can suck up to 500MB of ram.

I just tried xnews and it seems a little dated. I'm not saying it isn't good but has anyone tried grabit? I like that one a lot it's much easier to use for me.

I think Grabit a good news reader for downloading big binary files such like 360 games. It's not that useful as a text reader while Xnews does both as well.

I'm using xnews with a paid service. It takes forever to download. I've read the tutorials and I can't find anything that mentions how to adjust the speed. I have cox cable high speed internet. Is there some way that they are limiting my speeds?

Xnews wouldn't limit your speeds. How fast of a connection are you supposed to have from your ISP? Try doing a speed test to see what you really are getting. http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest

I'll try testing it when I get back. I'm downloading right now. I'll post the results when I'm done.
