Backed up both of these last night using RipIt4Me(v.153) with no problems.
DVDFab(V.3035) also handled it with no problems.

Just wanted to give yall a heads up. Although Little Man did have a $**t load of trailers,as all Sony movies do.

Making a full back up of Cars has alot of compression(47 to 52%)so I just did a movie only version too(for the car).

Ok I have a question about compression. Is the higher Compression the better the picture quality? Alot of times, I just do the movie only and try to add as much compression as I can.

I notice if I do a full back-up there is usually 45 to 57 compression, so what is the best way?

Thanks

When you compress a DVD, it loses calrity. The more the compression, the less clear it is. Try to increase the compression percentage by blanking out trailers, warnings, unneccesary logos and uneccesary languages/subtitles. This makes your back-up as close to the orignal (visually) as much as possible.

When you compress at 50% you start to notice the movie pixleating at times.

Ok, so that would explain alot of times when there is a black on the screen there is those weird looking pixels.

So basically I just need to take out the trailers, warnings and audio I will not use or need, right?

The higher of Video Quality is better (meaning you have less compressions). The lower of Video Quality is worst (meaning you have more/higher compressions). Look at pictures for reference.

BEST

GOOD

NOT SO GOOD, but can be done with Deep Analysis +AEC + Max Smooth

For animated flicks, the effects of compression seems especially noticeable, particularly artifacting. You might want to consider springing for DL discs so you can do a full backup with no compression.

-Do you believe you own your computer and shouldn't be told what you can run and do? Then say *NO* to Microsoft Vista!
-Since half the questions here involve media problems, here ya go: Only use Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden discs (get your TYs from Rima.com, not Supermediastore or meritline). Forget the rest, no matter what "brand" they sell under. Always burn at 4x speed regardless of the speed rating of this discs or your drive. If you have burn problems with these then you have to update your drive's firmware. For double-layer discs, only use Verbatim DVD+R DL and burn them at 2.4x speed.

Try Ripit4Me. Very ease to use, especially one 'click mode' That worked for. DVDFab worked on mine tho.

DL = DVD+R DL or DVD-R DL = DVD9 = Double Layer disc.

Hotrod,

Just as a matter of interest, I just shrunk Cars using AnyDVD, DVDDecrypter, and DVDShrink.

By going into the Re-Author menu, I was able to keep the preview and the two animated shorts, along with the movie. I shrunk the first three to about 55 or 60% (I don't remember which), and the movie still comes in at 70% clarity.

It's all a matter of preference, but my kids enjoy those things too, so I try to keep them when I can.

Anyhow, thought I'd throw out another option for you... :)

so let me get this straight...

all you have to do for movie's that have a lot of features is first get rid of the region protection, shrink it with DVD Shrink, and burn?

while in shrink to get the lowest compression just re-author, and add whatever content you want. Then backup?

Well, basically...

I like to copy it to my hard drive with DVD Decrypter first, just in case, and it also seems to save on resources when working with DVD Shrink.

Then use Shrink to re-author, making adjustments as you need to. Sometimes (mostly with Disney etc.) there are several angles, so simply choosing just one allows you the extra room you need.

Just remember that re-authoring removes menu functionality. I believe that's true of most other like-minded proggies, but I'm not 100% sure. I'm sure there are others here who could answer that.

There are a few good guides to using Shrink, if you're interested: http://www.mrbass.org is one, or ScubaPete's homepage at http://www.dvdplusvideo.com is another good one.

Certainly there are other programs, and other opinions, but this works for me, and others as well, I suspect.

Have fun!

This has gotten me a little stumped. I'm hard pressed to find a full movie I usually can't grab using DVDFab Decrypter, VobBlanker - then Recode. I see in this thread people are saying DVDFab Decrypter 3.035 worked. I get almost 50% through and it says process failed.

Different disc maybe? I'm trying RipIt4Me now. I'm trying to get the full disc - not just the movie.

Waitin' for Alkohol to chime in - he seems to figure it out. RipIt4Me didn't cut it either. It grabbed the entire disc but when I put it into Vob Blanker to "clean it up" it failed.

Trying DVDFab Decrypter 3.0.2.8 - worked on Monster House.

The Bestway to go is use a DL disc Verb's only. Then you will have a Full backup with no Re-Author or Compression needed. Also i would suggest using IMG burn For all DL burns but make sure you burner surport DL disc.

It works if you just want the movie - not the entire DVD.

The problem here folks, is that movie files are just getting bigger and bigger because everyone wants that fantastic resolution.

Some newer movies are going to continue to work out alright with little or no compression, but CGI effects are going to make it more and more difficult if you want entire thing (menus and extras).

Make no mistake - I always try to keep the whole thing just the way it comes to me. But at some point you need to ask yourself if you're willing to sacrifice picture quality for a menu.

The only other option to avoid all this headache is to go and get yourself a bunch of DL discs, as mentioned previously.

That's it. Keep on truckin'!
