What I like about ripit4me you can rip movie+menus and check off jump to main move title when its done ripping shrink opens in full disk mode and you now have movie with functional menus. So with the help of ripit4me shrink can now do movie+ functional menus.

Odd - tried DVDFab Decrypter 3.0.3.5 - would not rip movie only; cam eup with an error - could not read disk. Suggestions? Back to RipIt4Me.

This is the US edition released today.

I can't even get just the movie with DVDFab Decrypter 3.0.3.5 or RipIt4Me. When I go to process it though VOB - it fails.

I never have this issues and all programs are updated.

Interesting. AnyDVD failed for me. It even failed to correctly reconize the disc, and I am set up on auto update.

I used RipIt4Me Ver 1.4.5.0 with success. Also, I didn't upgrade my FixVTS. I am on version 1.403 instead of the current 1.6. Not too sure if this helps, but if you go to the FixVTS download page it will have all versions listed. One thing I have found is that if an older version isn't broke, don't try to fix it. I only upgrade to a newer load if the old reliable fails. Often times, a newer version will be wrought with bugs. See Nero 7 for example ;). Also, FYI, I tore the entire movie down. I prefer complete rips myself as well ;).

I rip uncompressed and crush it down with CCE-SP and DVD-Rebuilder Pro for the best results. I know many here will disagree and say they like Pro-Coder better, but IMO CCE (even basic) is a better program. PC seems to "overcorrect" IMO.

Trying DVDFab Decrypter 3.0.2.8 - worked on Monster House.

@orion6192

What movie is it? CARS or LITTLEMAN? I haven't done CARS yet, but I'll be back to report on CARS shortly.

If it's "LITTLEMAN", then DVDFAB Decrypter 3.0.3.5 should be able to handle (rip) this movie easily. DVDFAB Decrypter took me roughly 15 minutes or so to rip using a "FULL DISC Mode" successfully. And yes, I'm sucha VobBlanker-holic, so you know what's next. This movie (LITTLEMAN) doesn't even need to transcoded whatsoever, it's full of junks and little junks, unless you want the "Extras or Deleted Scenes".

Anyhow, my final size is only 3.62GB "Main Movie + functional Menu". Then I burn it straight with Nero Burning Rom. Simple and easy as sippin' on a Corona. Look at pictures below.

<><> Here's what I did to mine via VobBlanker <><>

<> VIDEO_TS.VOB <===== blank out
<> VTS_01*.VOB & Entry 01 <===== blank out
<> under VTS_02*.VOB, blank out Entry 02, keep Entry 01 on VTS_02 (this is the Menu + Main Movie)
<> Blank out "all other VTS" plus double click on each VTS (all VTS) and blank all "Ini Size" under "Menu PGCs".
<> OK, then PROCESS!! and you're done within 5 minutes.

TIPS: for VobBlanker to process faster, set your INPUT folder and OUTPUT folder separately (if you have 2 hard drives).

Now fire up ImgBurn, Nero Express or Nero Burning Rom (your choice of burning engines) and burn your final VIDEO_TS file from VobBlanker.

Enjoy it!

CARS is smooth as sippin' on another Corona with DVDFAB Decrypter 3.0.3.5 -- it took me roughly 18 minutes to rip and the rest is history. Again, VobBlanker to blank out "FBI, Trailers, Extras, etc.", it processed flawlessly within 5 minutes.

I had to transcode via Nero Recode using "AA + HQSR + Assign Best Quality to Main Movie" because it's Video Quality ratio is 70%, meaning it needs 30% to be transcoded. I'm going to fire up DVD-RB Pro v1.12.1 + CCE SP 2.70 once Recode is done, simply just for a 2nd backup only due to a lot of compressions needed.

All you really care for (to keep) is VTS_10_*.VOB + Entry 01 (this is the Main Movie + Menu), you can BLANK out Entry 02 & Entry 03. The rest (all other VTS + the first VIDEO_TS.VOB), get rid of it. Unless you really need any of them.

Enjoy it!

I cant help but notice nobody mentioned the EZ way, CloneDVD2 2.9.9.1 and AnyDVD 6.0.8.2 You can select entire disk or main movie + menu and anything else you may want, losing compression ratio with the more stuff you include. However, the combo blew thru all the aforementioned movies, as well as other new releases not mentioned with ease, piece of cake. No muss, no fuss. Perfect for those of us who want a good clean backup with least amount of effort, no jumping around from prog to prog to prog......taking an hour or more to do what this does in 20 mins. Picture quality is as good as any, I've tried almost everything thats come down the pike.

Alkohol - I am using 3.0.3.5 DVDFab Decrypter for Cars and I get "Process Failed" at 49.02% copying VTS_10_4.VOB. I am confused as hell. I tried both DVD drives - my plextor and my lite-on and nothing - same thing. I did actually get just the movie using RipIt4Me but I could not process it though VTSFixer or VOB - just straight to Shrink.

What could be wrong. What I really wanted was the movie, menu, and the two short featurettes.

Side note - what are the chances I got a bad disc?
Thanks -

Chances are t'aint a bad disc. Be careful not to drown yourself in alcohol, might get confused. Try the methodology I suggested (progs have 30 day trial period - if you aren't satisfied w/results, chuck 'em). Seems like you are spending a lot of needless time on a simple backup. Checkout my previous post, give it a try, and see what ya think. There is nothing to lose, except maybe a headache -}

Good thing there's more than 1 way to skin a cat lol. It comes down to whatever works best for the individual (you) based on your preferences in terms of compression ratio, desired sound, menus and extras, always keeping in mind the more you include, the lower the comp ratio, or picture clarity.........if you can even tell. Experiment and see what's best for you and stick w/ it, aware the alternatives are there. Back up and you will see what I recommend.
Happy Burning and Best of Luck

@orion6192

You may have got a bad pressed original. Anyways, I tried to rip CARS (trying the 3rd times just for fun) with DVD Decrypter (from LUK) via MODE, File F to see what's going on and to my surprised it (DVD Decrypter) ripped it successfully within 18 minutes. Seriously, I don't know why you can't rip CARS with DVDFAB Decrypter 3.0.3.5 at all. I don't know about others, but I've noticed that DVD Decrypter (the very last version from LUK) can rip almost nearly 99.99% of movies/dvds that has RipGuard by Macrovision.

So far, DVDFAB Decrypter (FREE), RipIt4Me (FREE) and DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0 (FREE) all can handle this movie (CARS) flawlessly. Look at below for more references.

Why don't you give DVDFAB Decrypter 3.0.3.6Beta (all FREE) a shot to see if you'll get a "success"? Here http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm

Just thought I'll throw in a few pictures here that's all. As you can see, I was able to save/delete 1.73GB by doing what I love (VobBlanker). Original CARS dvd is 7.90GB, my final file is 6.17GB (my kind of modified FULL DISC MODE). However, the max I can get is 70.3% on Video Quality ratio, so it's still a lot of compressions (29.7%) needs to be done/transcoded.

I did used Ripit4me, Decrypter, and Shrink (all latest version) to ripped CARS. The video is fine, but the audio is not. When playback in 5.1 DD to a receiver, the audio drop in/out every few seconds or so. The 2 channels DD is fine though.

I also ripped again using FabDecrypter but the same audio issue occurred.

Can anyone shedded some light in this matter?

Remove all audio except AC3 5.1 and see if there is an improvement. I assume when you say "DD" you are referring to the DTS audio track...not all players can handle this track well, that is why it is recommended to keep and AC3 5.1 track and ditch the rest. The AC3 track can be downmixed to 2 channel as well.

I wonder if it's possible for your local store to get a bad batch of discs- For the past year I have been using the 'Alkohol method' and have never run into a problem, until now. This is regarding the movie 'Little Man'. The first one I bought wouldn't play in my home player, and the 2 burners in my computers wouldn't recognize the disc. I returned it for a new disc. The new disc will play in my home player, but won't play in any PC I put it in. When I run it through Fab Decrypter, Fab will say something like 'scanning media'. After a minute or so, it says 'insert disc'. Ripit4me says 'parsing files', but then says 'failed to copy vts 04(and a few other files), then when it tries to run DVD Decrypter, Decrypter comes up with 'unrecoverable read error' when it tries to find 'vts 04', so I'm thinking another bad disc??? Has anyone goteen back to back bad discs????

CARS dvd disk do not have any DTS, only 5.1 and 2 channels DD (dolby digital). I ripped with only selected 5.1, ripped with both 5.1 and 2 channels DD. Both have the same issues when playback thru a receiver. The audio will drop in/out for a few second throughout the whole movie.

If you don't have the time to waste doing a whole page worth of steps and multiple programs, try shrink + AnyDVD 6082, clonedvd2 + AnyDVD 6082, ripit4me, cheeetah dvd 1.76 + AnyDVD 6082, or recode + anydvd6082. Any/All will get you the newest movies at acceptable compression ratios, no muss no fuss. Some are free, some aren't, but compared to what you paid for the movies, its worth considering buying AnyDVD,the only prog you really need to buy or try.

@alkohol

I did try 3.0.3.6beta - it fails every feaking time 10_4 - I have never had an issue with the "alkohol" method either. I'm thinking bad disc. I look at the RipIt4Me log when I try to run the VTS cleanup and it said:

Analysis done
I 19:03:20: Checking for potential read-errors caused by scratches on the disc.
I 19:03:20: WARNING: Possible scratch/dirt on VTS 10 PGC 1 Cell 22
I 19:03:47: Canceling cleanup phase

Side note - disc is like a mirror - flawless.

It has to be the disc - this is nuts.

I posted this message is 2 or 3 other threads as general information. Its just an observation about defective original movie discs.

Around this same time last year, right before the hoildays, members here on Afterdawn started running into some movies that seem to refuse to be ripped no matter what software was used. In almost 2 years of using Clonedvd/Anydvd combination I had never run into a movie I couldn't backup. At this time last year I had problems with 2 different movies myself. The first problem was with "Day After Tomorrow" I had just purchased. I tried every program I had and I do have just about everything out there. After 2 days of aggravation, I took the disc back and had it replaced. The second disc ripped the first try with no problems. This happened with several movies around the holiday gift giving season and several of us thought it might be from an increase in production speed for the holidays. These discs show no damage or visible defect but had corrupt damage that would play ok but would show up when ripping. It seems to be starting again at the same time of year. If the MASTER DISC has any defect it will be passed on to many other pressed copies of the same movie. There is no way to tell how often they check for defective copies or how many were manufactured with a defect. Just something to keep in mind.

@alkohol

It was a bad disc. Watched the original and at the end of chapter 18 it skips, stops and freezes.

Who would have thunk it :)

Thanks all.... I haven;t found much I can't handle and this just drove me nuts!

@orion6192

I knew it would be a bad pressed original. Though it's true that CARS has the latest protections from RipGuard, however, both DVDFAB Decrypter and RipIt4Me should be able to handle this easily, not to mentioned I ripped CARS successfully with just good ole DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0 via MODE, File F without any glitches.

Again, both DVDFAB or RipIt4Me has not let me down. I've never experienced any movies/dvds that it can not be ripped or backup.

So did you get a exchange and were you able to successfully rip CARS afterward? Let me know alright and keep me posted cause I sure want to help. If there's anything else you need, then don't hesitate to ask. I'll do what I can to help with some good ole FREE tools, plus there are "few knowledgeable" members here at AD that can help you sort things out as well, especially the few that knows what they're doing.

By the way (a little off topic here), but if you're interested on how to use ImgBurn (to burn your already transcoded VIDEO_TS file), then go here Burning VIDEO_TS file using ImgBurn I've just made that free and simple guide for newbies or those that are interested. ImgBurn is the new and improved ISO image & VIDEO_TS burner from LUK (the author behind DVD Decrypter).

@mikey73

ImgBurn is the new and improved ISO image & VIDEO_TS burner from Lightning UK (the author behind DVD Decrypter). It's totally FREE and awesome, you can burn either ISO or VIDEO_TS file -- I highly recommend everyone to get it.

Here How to burn VIDEO_TS with ImgBurn -- give ImgBurn a try and see how you like it.

I've heard of CopyToDVD, but I've never used it. On the other hand, I'm a Nero-holic; I primarily used Nero Burning Rom or Express as my main VIDEO_TS burning engine. However, I'm starting to enjoy ImgBurn more and more.

My 2cents,
I was fooling around with Cars and first tried Shrink alone. Shrink got real slow but finally got to the analysis step. Then it failed with a CRC error message after finding some Ripguard damage.

Next I used Decrypter alone, ISO read mode...... and it worked! Which is really funny and a bit surprising when you think about it.... It was Macrovision that screwed over LUK and forced him to give them the rights to Decrypter.
They "own" Decrypter yet they still can't stop it with their Ripguard!

At any rate I "Shrinked" the iso, movie only, and used CopyToDVD to burn. Then kicked back and enjoyed the movie.
I should have used ImgBurn to burn with though, just for LUK.
