You have a trojan that is running in the background and has most likely tampered with your task manager...

Are you the administrator of the computer you are using?

First, update AVG antivirus for the latest definitions...

Download SUPERAntiSpyware: http://www.superantispyware.com/download...ANTISPYWAREFREE

- Install, update, but not run a scan yet...

Create a folder (whatever you want it called) on your desktop and move Hijack This into it. This should be done because any entries removed, a back-up will not be created...

If you are the administrator, then run Hijack This (Do a system scan only) and palce a check mark at the following entries:

O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present
O7 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System, DisableRegedit=1

Reboot your computer so the computer can process the changes...

Now, you will need to boot into safe mode, instructions here: http://www.computerhope.com/issues/chsafe.htm

Once in safe mode, run Hijack This (Do a system scan only) and remove these entries:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Task Manager] C:\WINDOWS\svhost32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SVCHOST] C:\WINDOWS\svhost32.exe

After that, run AVG antivirus for a full system scan...save log if possible...

Then, run SUPERAntiSpyware, click on Preferences, click on the tab: Scanning Control, click to check-mark everything under: Scanner Options. Click "Close". Now, click on Scan your Computer.... Check-mark hard drive(s). Enable Perform Complete Scan. Click "Next." It may take a while to scan your entire computer...

After those are done, reboot normally. Post logs from AVG (if there is one), SUPERAntiSpyware, Hijack This (Do a system scan and save a log) in your next response...

Run CCleaner, click on Options (left side), click on Advanced, uncheck "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours", click on Cleaner (left side), click on Run Cleaner, a message may appear notifying you once you delete the files, they will not be recoverable, click ok...

After that, unzip Pocket Killbox into its own folder, run it, copy and paste these lines into the field under "Full Path of File to Delete"

C:\WINDOWS\svhost32.exe

If you are prompted to restart the computer, go ahead and do so...

Run Hijack This, remove these entries, if they exist:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Task Manager] C:\WINDOWS\svhost32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SVCHOST] C:\WINDOWS\svhost32.exe
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present
O7 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System, DisableRegedit=1
O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - http://edits.mywebsearch.com/toolbaredit...?p=ZNxmk789DHCA

If your task manager still does not work, look at this link:

http://windowsxp.mvps.org/Taskmanager_error.htm

Restart your computer for the changes to take effect...

Update AVG antivirus and SUPERAntiSpyware for the latest updates and do Complete System scans...

Post logs from AVG, SUPERAntiSpyware, and Hijack This

Little more info. it has also reset my home page so I can't get it back. As I could tell you were aware the task manager was off also, thank you for that part ( I had that already covered with the nessecary reset typed into the run ). be back soon with test results. THANKS AGAIN SO MUCH

Download ATF Cleaner: http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/

- Run it, check Select All, click Empty Selected

Boot into safe mode, instructions here: http://www.computerhope.com/issues/chsafe.htm

Once in safe mode, run Hijack This, remove these entries (Do a system scan only, click "Fix checked")

Now, search for svhost32.exe for all traces and delete them...

Run AVG Antivirus and SUPERAntiSpyware

Post logs (AVG, SAS, and Hijack This) in your next response...

To get the log from SAS, run the program, click on Preferences, click on the tab labeled: Statistics/Logs. Select one and click on "View Log". the log will pop up and this allows you to copy and paste. Copy and paste both logs (one from before and the most recent one)

How is your computer running? Does your taskmanager work?

Let's clear out your System Restore, as some of the malware/viruses may have been saved there...

Turning off System Restore

**Doing this will wipe out all previous restore points!**

1) On the Windows task bar, click Start

2) Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties

3) On the System Restore tab, check "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives"

**If you do not see the System Restore tab, you are not logged on to Windows as an Administrator**

4) Click "Apply"

5) When you see the confirmation message, click Yes

6) Click OK

Turning System Restore back on

1) On the Windows task bar, click Start

2) Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties

3) On the System Restore tab, uncheck "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives"

4) Click "Apply"

5) When you see the confirmation message, click Yes

6) Click OK

After that, go to the Control Panel and uninstall your Java through the Add/Remove feature.

Download the latest one Java Runtime Environment 1.5.0.9 from here (right side): http://filehippo.com/download_java_runtime/

After that, restart your computer so the changes can fully take effect...

Now, since we cleared your restore points, create a new one. Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore... Once therem enable "Create a restore point", under "Restore point description" you can write something like: Clean computer state...or something similar, click "Create" and follow the instructions...

If needed, post a Hijack This log in your next response...

Have you cleared your system restore and created a new one?

Please go to your Control Panel > Add/Remove feature and uninstall the old version of Java. Install version 1.5.0.9

Other than that, your log is clean. Are you experiencing any more problems?

I am experiencing the problem as soon as I sent the last HIJACK to you it was back. Running through all the steps again now. I assume clearing the system restore shouldn't be done till I have concured the bugger?

THUGS, it keeps coming back in I must be missing something. There is a file ( C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temp\SVhost32 ) it will not give me access to delete when I find it on search. I know it was there before and I was able to get rid of it then but not this time. SAS came up clean last scan, as well as AVI, so I have to assume I am missing one of the steps or not doing something in the right order. God this is getting frustrating but I'll persist. Hijack keeps showing the lines I have deleted many times.

Download CCleaner: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4191.html

- Install, Click on "Options", click on "Advanced", uncheck Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours, then Click on "Cleaner", then click on "Run Cleaner" (bottom right)...

Run BitDefender online scanner: http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html

You'll need IE or a similar browser to use the scanner, accept the license agreement and do a full system scan, be sure to save a log...copy and paste the log into your next response...

OK Thugs I think I have gotten it again and reset the system restore. It is early to tell but ..... For all those of you try to beat this thing I beleive ( other then listening to THUGS and following his instructions to the letter ) it came down to running CCLEANER in safe mode ...... Download CCleaner: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4191.html this program has an advanced setting to delete all files older then 48 hours which originally my file was but after it re-initialized it's self it was brand new and I couldn't delete the file at all. In safe mode it seemed to let me. (advise if this is correct plz THUGS) Thank you again THUGS some of us might just consider you a god !

Create a folder and move Hijack This into that folder. While you are doing that, rename Hijack This into something like: analyze-this.exe

Have you done a full system scan with SUPERAntiSpyware?

If not, go ahead and do one. Update the program for the latest signatures...Boot into safe mode, instructions here: http://www.computerhope.com/issues/chsafe.htm

After you are in safe mode, run SUPERAntiSpyware, click on Preferences, click on the tab: Scanning Control, click to check-mark everything under: Scanner Options. Click "Close". Now, click on Scan your Computer.... Check-mark hard drive(s). Enable Perform Complete Scan. Click "Next." It may take a while to scan your entire computer..

After the scan has finished, if it has detected some bad things, go ahead and remove them. After it has quarantined them, click on "Manage Quarantine", choose the most recent scan---choose "Remove"

After that, run Hijack This (Do a system scan only):

O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present
O7 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System, DisableRegedit=1

- Place a check mark at these entries and click on "fix"

Post logs from Hijack This and from SAS. To get the log from SAS, run the program, click on Preferences, click on the tab labeled: Statistics/Logs. Select one and click on "View Log". the log will pop up and this allows you to copy and paste. Copy and paste both logs in your next response...
