dude swap magic blows its gets to be quite a hassle but if you only have 30$ to spare or whatever it costs it'll do, it wont play every game and lots of people run into problems with it. I'd go with the dms 4 pro I had swap magic and I must say if you have the money get the chip you will be very glad you did!
oh yea and the faceplate does'nt matter it stays off anyway so long as you use swap magic the only side effect would be dust gettin in there I guess I cray glued mine back on when I upgraded to the chip

"Swap Magtic PWNZ. It plays every single game"
go back to school son and learn your stuff.
Swap Magic bites! It is a cheap mod which is the ONLY reason people use it.
It can not play dual layer, some games have to be rebuilt or patched,
you have screen cut off with games from other regions. Using cheat discs is a complete pain and all that swapping.
You will have none of those problems with the below chips.
A good mod chip, hand down, is the best mod you can get for your PS2
Get a DMS4 Pro SE if you plan on adding a hard drive as it has all the built in HD LOader stuff you need and a built in cheat device that works like AR Max
Crystal Chip V1.1 is geared towards the online gamer as it has auto patching so you can play back ups online
And Matrix Infinity (beware of clones!!!) is another good chip

Swap magic dosen't suck. It's awesome. It's a good solution for modding not just because it's cheap, it's for people who don't want to solder in a chip (even if they know how to). Even if it is not superior like an inferior modchip, with a little homebrewing and programs it is just as good.

omg nobody really thinks of how EASY it is to mod your pstwo without buyin crap, except the swap magic disks. you just have to use tissue on the front sensor,a q-tip on the back-right sensor, and stick somthing down the back-left sensor, like a one of those grocery bag bendy things. its easy, except it may take a while for you to get the 3rd one to work.
I'm glad I'm Notyu
