360 Dead Rising Incompatible Hard Drive??

Hi,


Having major issues with dead rising... Ran through a ton of steps and it basically boils down to this...


1. When trying to run a new game of dead rising (clicking new game) within 2 seconds it pops up with the 'unrecoverable disc error - clean the disc etc'.
2. When i REMOVE the hard drive it works fine (with the obvious problem of not being able to save the game).
3. When i place another hard drive (i went to a shop to do this - not paying another 160 for a single game) it works and saves fine.


Any ideas how to get around this?! I guess i'm going to have to format the hard drive, but i don't want to have to spend another 60 bucks on getting a memory card to temporarily store save games...

This problem ONLY happens on dead rising, i've tried with 2 brand new 'out of the box' copies. I've also deleted tons of space on the hard drive (over 8gb free) in case it was a faulty sector, but it still has the error. Even removed the demo, just in case, and same problem...


Has anyone else had a similar problem? Did formatting fix it?


My main question is:

What is the quickest/cheapest way to backup my save games (then format hard drive) then restore the save games?

Will backing up save games be useless on a formatted drive due to copy protection?




Any pointers would be great, as said its just one game, but i have to backup (and restore) the save games....
