Can someone suggest a tool or application that will allow me to edit my videos (avi's and mpeg's), example: To brighten them up (change the brightness and contrast) Thanks much

TMPGEnc

With AVI files it depends on how there were compressed and sometimes I have to run them through VirtualDub 1st to make it easiest to TMPGEnc on them.

No problem. I just happened to notice your post since it was at the top and on the front page of the forum list. You should be all set, but let me know if you have any problems getting what you need to do done.

I was told Virtual dub can do my job alone. Is this true or must I use TMPEG in addition to virtual Dub. I have downloaded it but not sure how to install Virtual dub Can you please instruct me? ???

Yes you can change the them in VirtualDub. For some reason I though you wanted to burn them to DVD when I saw mpeg. Virtual can open mpegs, but only can save files as AVI. Make sure you select a codec for video compression before saving or else the AVI file will be HUGE. I never compress the audio. For brightness and contrast, go to the video tab in VirtualDub, select filters, add brightness/contrast filter, and then adjust as you please. Remember the window on the right is the preview of your new AVI. Also

Lastly, you don't install VirtualDub. It runs from it's location. I suggest making a folder where ever you like. I keep mine on my desktop. Extract all the VirtualDub files to that folder. Open the application file named VirtualDub for use.
