Omg I am soooo pissed off at this point. I just got my xecuter usb connectivity kit for my xbox hitachi drive. And the night before I had burned about 10 backups all fine without any problems. Well..I was too anxious to flash my firmware that I didn't even bother turning my pc off before I connected my dvd rom drive (hitachi) to the xecuter power connectivity kit. Omg and then the worst happened! I got a short (stupid me for doing this while my pc was on, but I was oblivious to this because I was extremely anxious, mind you I did 4 years in pc tech support and I should of caught this immediately. Well...from what I can tell my drive and the xecuter connetivity kit seem to be both fried! I then tried installing the drive back to the 360 just to confirm and the drive doesn't open up at all. I would have to open the drive with the controller but nothing happens all I see on screen is the "drive open" drive close option. I checked on ebay and this drive alone runs for like 100 bucks! But I read I would have to extract my board key in order for it to work with a replacement. Am I totally doomed or is there another way to extract this after I get the replacement? Any help guys please! I am furious and to the point that I want to slam the crap out of this xbox although it was my dumb ass fault!

Well you already know you screwed up so there's no need harping on that. I don't think there is an easy way to get the DVD Key from the motherboard. I've seen services that do it for a fee. I screwed up my Sammy during my 1st attempt at flashing. Fortunately I was able to sell the bricked console only on ebay and buy a replacement console only for about $50 more.

xmatic, I did the same thing " Almost" I Did'nt have the power from the kit plugged all the way in the 360 drive and fired up the xbox ....Smelled this metal shit and OMFG fried the DVD Rom. So your not alone.

I think I might have the ms28 samsung drive now. Is this any harder to flash? I mean do I have to go around soldering anything on it and then flash? the hitachis seem fairly simple.

I'm almost in the same situation. I plugged the connectivity kit in while my pc was turned on and there was a short and the pc shut off. Lucky for me only the xbox 360 connectivity kit got fried not my dvd drived. I checked by powering up my xbox360 and putting a game in and playing. it ejects, close and played games alright. soory to hear about your luck man.
